The Luxury of an Extra Day Off

Ahhh, to be so lucky as to have an extra day off! Here in Manitoba, we have today off as Louis Riel day- an interesting figure in our provincial history that I might do a post on if enough people are interested. In the rest of Canada, I believe it is known as Family Day (BC’s Family Day was last Monday)! No matter what, it is a day off from work! Now that I am a regular young professional I appreciate these days off more than ever! I like to be productive on my Saturdays and Sundays- I feel sluggish during the week when I have a ton of stuff to do in the evenings. I can get the majority of my blog work done, any errands I need to run, laundry, extra yoga, and any new recipes I am interested in trying. I also find that I am more tired when I don’t actually do anything. That being said, an extra day off here and there is very much appreciated, and gives me time to move at quite a slow pace. So, what am I doing today?

Reading all in good taste and Mademoiselle: Coco Chanel and the Pulse of History! I’m thoroughly enjoying both, and I should have a book post with both of these up next week. I will be tucked in with my paw print throw and a mug of tea, quietly enjoying my books 🙂

Watching Lucy Worsley’s Empire of the Tsars (Part I, Part II, and Part III)! I was very surprised to see that she had worked on a non-English topic, given that she works for the Royal Historic Palaces, but I love Russian history and Lucy! I desperately wish that a channel in Canada would broadcast them, but I’m at the mercy of wonderful people who upload them to YouTube.

This might not happen, but I am also hoping to get a few extra blog posts written! I typically write a full week’s worth on the weekend, through the next Saturday. I am planned out for the next 2-3 weeks, though- so if I can get ahead, it would be great! I will most likely spend an hour or so just reading blogs. I typically don’t have a huge amount of time at once to read blogs, so that would be a nice change.

What do you do on your days off? Do you try and get out, or stay in??

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

    • I think that the big luxury really IS getting more time outside!! I’ve never really thought about it, but I guess on normal week days, we don’t get a lot of time outside 🙁 My new goal in the spring and summer is to spend some evenings outside!

  • I try to get outside even if just for 30mins with my dog. I’m stuck in doors all week at work and often don’t even get a lunch break. Days off mean much needed fresh air and a stroll. We had blue skies and sunshine this week, which was lovely.

    • I went out to the dog park today to enjoy the fresh air! Being outside really makes a difference, doesn’t it? I appreciate the 20 minutes of fresh air I get walking in and out of work, but I always try to get more!
