An Evening at the Ballet, Style Saturday

Style Saturday is back for one week! I wanted to share another style approach to an evening at the ballet or the theatre and show that there are quite a few ways to dress to the occasion without being over-the-top, black tie formal. Whenever I speak to people about attending the ballet (which is quite a lot…), I consistently hear that being inappropriately dressed, either too casually or too formally, is a concern. Typically a company won’t turn you away because of an outfit choice, but it’s always nice to feel comfortable amongst everyone else in your choices! This is another way to tackle business casual without feeling out of your element…

How to Pull Off Plaid, Style File Friday

If you take nothing else away from my closet, you will see enough plaids to cover the Highlands. Plaids are my favourite pattern, and I think subconsciously part of the reason I dislike the summer is that plaids are incredibly difficult to wear. My plaid collection is wide-ranging and hits most every variation of the pattern possible. I know that a lot of people prefer to dress completely in solids, and sometimes even solely in black, but I think that plaid is a great “entry” pattern that is easier to wear than people think! These are my tips to wearing plaid and managing your collection.

The Importance of Customer Service, Style File Friday

Unless you are lucky enough to have a personal shopper who handles all of the nitty and gritty parts of your shopping experience, you will come into contact with customer service at some point in the proceedings. Usually, I would say that it goes smoothly for most of us, but every once in a while, there is a snag in the proceedings and we rely on customer service to get us through the transaction peacefully. Today I’m chatting about what makes for good customer service, and what we can do to help everything along as the customer!

How to Model in Blog Photos, Style File Friday

I know that many bloggers are totally cool with being on their blog, but I find it a little weird to be on my own blog. I think that that probably says more about me than anything, but I’m not great at editing photos with people in it, me or otherwise. However, one of my best friends is an amazing photographer and when I saw that she was offering half hour mini sessions, I knew that I had to jump on it. This isn’t a post on how to actually take the photos, but rather how to be the person IN the photos- a skill unto itself!

A Guide to Caring for Your Winter Clothing, Style File Friday

I know that everyone’s weather is different (I know science…) but it is getting colder and colder here now- sadly no snow yet, but we’ve had a good 10°C drop in weather overall. The wind blows right through you, your cheeks get that pink tinge, and just hoping that you can run straight from the bus or your car inside isn’t enough anymore. If you live anywhere with any decently cold weather, you will have an entire wardrobe of clothing to wear for it, and that clothing requires specific care. This is a quick guide to caring for your winter clothing!

Style Memories, Style File Friday

Today is going to be a slightly different Style File Friday- I promise that next week I will be back to my regularly scheduled style tips and advice posts next week (I’ve got two already on the go), but I wanted to go slightly more sentimental this week. Every single one of us have those pieces that although we might not be able to wear too often, we still hold very dear to ourselves- for me, one particular piece comes to mind…

Styling a Tulle Skirt, Style File Friday

I think that many of us dream of wearing a tulle skirt and while it may seem fun and exciting, it’s actually a little harder to style than I originally thought it would be. It’s tough to walk the line of fun but not juvenile when a tulle skirt is involved, and I wanted to make sure that I did it right. I’m going to share how I decided to style my skirt for my favourite night of the year- Barre After Hours!

The Subtle Art of Layering, Style File Friday

Layering- the often bandied around style that isn’t as easily done as it’s popularity might imply. When incorrectly done, you will often find yourself red faced and sweaty, wondering why on earth you thought you would be cold when you will never feel the wonder of a cool breeze on your skin again. There are a few ways to ensure that you are warm but not overheated, and still have a put together and cohesive outfit.
