Summer Skincare Routine, Style File Friday

The summer- the time for most of us where we try to take advantage of the warm weather and do all of those outdoorsy activities that are difficult to do in the extreme cold and metres of snow. (Or rain/ normal amounts of snow that you may have…) It’s also the time when we tend to be harder on our skin. Sure, we often get dry in the winter but the summer can actually work against your skin in big ways. This is how I’m tackling the summer weather and protecting my skin!

First steps- the sunscreen. “I want to tan,” is what many people are going to say. Well, the damage that will occur while you are tanning will last a lifetime while the tan will probably fade by November or December- ‘screen up, my friends! I am a fairly pale individual, so I meticulously slather up every 2-3 hours when I am outside (even if I haven’t sweated or swam if off). It takes maybe two minutes and can save me the pain and irritation of a sunburn and who knows what down the road! I like to have a travel sized sunscreen in my purse at all times- this one is from Walmart, but I just try to find brands that don’t cause any irritation for me. And as for my face, I use my Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Face Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 25! It’s a mineral sunscreen and has very little tint to it, and has protected me from any colour at all. I use it as a primer and reapply before I go out at lunch or at the end of the day- it’s actually an amazing product, and I’m fairly impressed by it!

Second Steps- the cleaning of everything. Now is definitely not the time to have breakouts when you are out and doing things and probably having pictures taken at any given moment. Take the time to properly remove all sunscreen, make up, and skin products! I have started trying the whole “double cleanse” thing, and I am starting to finally notice a difference after two weeks. I use cotton pads and Simple Micellar Water to remove everything from my face- with the sunscreen alone, it’s typically about 3-5 cotton pads. Once everything has been removed, I use the Nivea Gentle Foaming Cleanser (for dry and sensitive skin). It takes maybe an extra ninety seconds and I’m seeing a fairly major difference.

The last step- Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Relief. This moisturiser is the Holy Grail of Beauty Products for me- it could not be more of a miracle product. When I was in Berlin, my face was so dry, I actually had lines around my eyes. A tiny dab of Moisture Surge and it was like my skin had never been dry in my life! I use this in the morning and before bed, and it keeps my skin soft and happy. It is on the more expensive side- $46 CAD for 50ml- but a jar typically lasts me 4-7 months. If your skin is going through continual wear and tear, it needs moisture in any form it can get!
Bonus points- Drink a stupid amount of water. Your skin needs to be hydrated from the inside and drinking water can’t hurt your skin…
How do you take care of your skin?
Until tomorrow,
