On my last day of the trip, the four of us went back into Seattle again! But this trip had a slightly different purpose…
I woke up at 520am so I could get my hair and make up done, and look presentable! Why, you ask? We wanted to take the Sounder train into Seattle to see what kind of commute it would make for M, and those bad boys leave at 5:56, 6:26, 6:56, and 7:26am. Our goal was to make the 6:56 Sounder; if we missed it, it would leave the 7:26 train as a back up. M’s mom was wonderful and drove us down to the ferry in Clinton so that we could catch it at 6:30. It turns out that it is free for walk-on passengers going to Mukilteo! We shuffled on, and sat down for 15 minutes of quiet (I read). The ferry docked, and we hustled it to the Sounder train station, about a 7 minute walk. Keep in mind, we were almost running, so if you weren’t able to walk that quickly, you might have take the prior ferry to make it in time. The train tickets were $4 apiece one way, not too terrible!
The train ride was uneventful; it was a 40 minute ride into Seattle with one stop in the middle. It was full of commuters, as to be expected. We made it in the city by about 7:40! We joined the rush of people leaving the station and headed back out into Seattle. We walked past the Seattle Public Library- we keep meaning to stop there, but it wasn’t opened at 7:45 🙁 Next trip! I was able to get these pictures quickly without blocking traffic; somewhat blurry, but they give you an idea of how interesting of a building it is.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that some parts of Seattle were still holiday-y! I am a firm believer in spreading the holiday cheer beyond New Year’s- you don’t have to be Christmas-y, but you can be happy and cozy and fun.
I very much enjoy how all of the street names are set into the corners, like this. It looks elegant and is informative and helpful for those of us who need it.
Back to Pike Place we go! Looks a little eerie with that fog in the background… 
We were able to get into Le Panier for some breakfast, there was no line and a good amount of table space! It is another restaurant I had been hoping to try, but not able to make it through the line, so this was a wonderful surprise. I had an apple danish and Scottish breakfast tea, it was lovely 🙂 On a rainy day breakfast tea can make the world of difference!
After this, we ventured to the Pacific Place Mall; the main reason for our trip in was The Hateful Eight and Sisters. M’s brothers were excited to see it. They love Tarantino, and there is an AMC theatre that was showing it on 70mm film. I eventually want to see it, but I have a dreadful habit of passing out during Tarantino films. Much better for me to see it at home where I can put myself in recovery position on the couch! More importantly, I have been waiting to see Sisters for MONTHS. (At the time of writing, I have seen it again in theatres.) We bought the tickets for our movies, and then headed to Barnes and Noble to wait for the rest of the mall opened.
I don’t think that I can fully explain my love of bookstores. We spent half an hour wandering, and then I noticed the Cozy Cap Murders! (See my 2016 books post for more info.) It was on the shelf before it’s release date, and I’ve been waiting for months. You can’t beat that excitement for a book nerd!
Then, Kate Spade opened!! I had stopped in on our first day in Seattle and found nothing; this time I was looking for something specific and still didn’t find it 🙁 Still, they were sweet and welcoming! After this, we just wandered. Sisters started at 11:30am, and finished about 1:45. My post tomorrow is going to be on movies, including Sisters!
The rest of our day was wandering, and a stop at the Yardhouse for M and his brothers. I just had 7up, but they each had crazy and different pints. We weren’t one hundred percent where to catch the train back, so that was a crazy run to make it! The man buying a ticket in front of us was paying with nickels and dimes, and we almost didn’t make it because of how slow it was 🙁 Lesson learned, buy a round-ticket, and allow for an extra 5-7 minutes. And we made it back to the ferry! Huzzah!! A wonderful day, all in all 🙂
