Getting Back to Healthy

As I posted earlier, I unfortunately got food poisoning on the way home from Seattle. Yes, it was horrendous but I am continually grateful that I no longer feel like a possum is clawing it’s way out of my stomach. I never thought that that would be a sentence that I would type… Once I was on the mend from that, I got hit with a cold/possible sinus infection. Of course. It logically makes sense, my immune system was still recovering, but it really is beating me down. I was winded from getting my tea. Also, Buckley’s is the most disgusting substance on the planet. So, where am I at with my health and fitness?

My fitness is currently gentle yoga and nothing else. I had planned to go to the gym immediately when I returned to work, and then all of the above happened 🙁 The old me would have taken enough cold meds to push through it, but I don’t think that is the answer. An extra week off will not hurt me, and it just makes getting back to the gym for running that much more exciting! I am enjoying my Fitbit still, as well. On January 4th, my last day with M, I received my High Tops badge, for walking for 20,000 steps in one day!

Woohoo! Not too shabby, indeed.

As for my health in general, I have been trying to sleep as much as humanly possible. I came home early from work one day when the coughing and strain on my rib muscles was just too much. I have consciously tried to avoid doing anything that is strenuous, which is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Now that my stomach can handle a bit more, I’ve been working in fruits in order to ramp up my vitamins. I know infusing lemons in your water doesn’t do that much, but I figure every little bit of Vitamin C helps. Before anyone shakes me for being nonsensical, I do know that Vitamin C doesn’t help currently as I am already sick, but it’s not going to hurt me, and will hopefully help prevent me picking up yet another illness.

I’ve been putting honey in my tea. That doesn’t sound like anything but I hate sweetener in my tea (I’m firmly 1 milk, no sweetener.). However, it does make a difference on my throat and cough, so I’ll keep doing that for a little bit. Cold 911 from David’s has been my go-to; looks like grass but tastes okay, and just generally soothes my throat and lungs. I can’t really ask for anything more!

Do you have any tips for recovering from being generally run-down??

Until tomorrow,

  • Awww you poor thing! I hope you’re feeling better now! I feel the same about honey or any kind of sweetener in my tea – it’s just not what I like! But when you’re sick, nothing beats honey in tea!
