We will have to believe everything is there- Windsor Castle!

On the Monday morning of our trip, we woke up at an unreasonably early hour to head to the airport. Luckily enough, as we were walking to the AirCoach stop a taxi stopped and offered us a ride for €15- sold! Especially at 530 in the morning.  We got to the airport,  checked in flew, flew, etc. Landed at Luton and grabbed the train to Radlett,  my cousin Jane was lovely and picked us up from the station. I haven’t seen Jane in two years, so it was absolutely wonderful to see her again! After a bit of catching up, we headed off to Windsor. I will admit to being terrible and falling asleep in the car- I apologise, Jane!!

Windsor Castle was built in the Norman period originally by William the Conqueror. It has been used by every English monarch since Henry I- no other European palace has been occupied for the same length of time. Windsor is a small-ish city (large town, maybe). It seems quite quiet, though I would imagine it picks up quickly! When you walk up to the castle, you are faced with the formidable Victoria I. We found out when going in that almost every room would be closed because the Queen would be there the next day. I would think that the staff would be efficient enough to get it done when everything closes at 4, but I suppose not. However, the grounds are still lovely to walk ’round. I was particularly impressed by the gardens! We were able to see an exhibition on Waterloo- I didn’t think it would be, but it was quite interesting! We were also able to see Queen Mary’s Dollhouse. I am not a doll person but if you have the chance, I would recommend seeing this. The level of detail is incredible. Unfortunately St George’s Chapel was closed, and that was the main thing I wanted to see. It was still nice to see the outside, however. Maybe next time! After walking outside, I spotted this gem! Hopefully pints are on the house for Catherine. Until tomorrow, The Historian!
