This past long weekend I ventured through the rain and snow (yes, SNOW) because something needed to happen. I NEEDED to see Pitch Perfect 2. I went with one of my friends from work, and I have to say, I was surprised at how full the theatre was. I know it was the Sunday night of a long weekend, but we went to a theatre that is almost never full, and I figured people would want to stay home to avoid the snow. The power of Pitch Perfect, eh?
I was never going to not love this movie. If I could, I would be Anna Kendrick. As a fellow not-giant, I appreciate that she doesn’t get shoved into little kid roles. I did feel like Becca (or Be-CAW, if you are Jesse) lost a bit of her edge, but not enough to hugely detract from the movie. I’m not sure how I feel about Hailee Steinfeld’s character- apparently she was meant to be the new Becca? They went heavy on the awkward on that one.
I don’t watch football ever, but the Green Bay Packers’ appearance was hilarious. Nothing like giant football players with tearaway suit sleeves singing Beyonce. I would wholeheartedly argue that this Riff Off was better than the original Riff Off (yes, it’s capitalised. Deal.), better song choices and more variation. “I’d take her to a nice hot meal and tip the waaaiter.” Way to be, Benji. Also, Anna Camp’s cameo was fantastic, and it was nice to see the Bellas back in their old form!
I would give it a 4.5/5 stars! I have a few other thoughts, but they are spoiler-territory, so I won’t have those up until the movie is out on DVD. If you are a person and you like being happy, go see Pitch Perfect 2- GO NOW!
