How do I get all of my energy to bake and decorate and write cards and watch movies and wrap presents?? CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS. (Just kidding. It’s the baking, obviously.) I enjoy the fact that cocktails are making a comeback, and even though I doubt I will ever be committed enough to actually own a bar cart instead of a liquor cabinet, I love the huge variety of recipes out there!
David’s Tea has an awesome blog/newsletter where they post different kinds of tea recipes, and they have outdone themselves. Santa’s Secret is probably my favourite tea, period. I know the black tea might not be the absolute best quality, but vanilla and peppermint are my two favourite flavours. I knew as soon as I saw the email with “Santa’s Secret Shooters” that I am going to have to try this recipe, even though I don’t drink vodka.
Recipe:
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Perfect Spoonful of Santa’s Secret tea
- 2 tbs of hot water
- 1 cup vodka
- Peppermint schnapps
- Crème de cacao
DIRECTIONS
- Add tea into a mason jar and top with 2 tbs hot water.
- Let sit for 2 minutes, then add vodka.
- Cover and let sit for at least 3 hours, shaking occasionally.
- Strain and mix one part Santa’s Secret vodka with one part Peppermint Schnapps and one part Crème de Cacao in a shot glass.
- Bottoms up!

My usual go-to for cocktail recipes is mixthatdrink.com. It has a good variety and they usually don’t involve ingredients like “juniper-infused dark rum that was harvested on a full moon”, as found on various hipster sites.
I will also be trying this Christmas Cookie recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce of Peppermint Schnapps
- 1 ounce of Kaluha
- 1 ounce of Irish Cream
Instructions
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Pour in all three ingredients.
- Shake thoroughly until chilled, then strain the mixture into the glass.
The last drink that is one my must-try list is the Red Rudolph. I am lucky my family actually likes vodka, as it usually means we have some around. It also means that I will probably have a good deal of Schnapps around.
Ingredients
- 1/2 ounce orange curacao
- 3/4 ounce Cinnamon Schnapps
- 1/2 ounce vodka
- 6 ounces cranberry juice
Instructions
- Heat the cranberry juice until it’s hot.
- Pour everything else into an Irish coffee mug and then slowly add the hot juice. (The drink will be warm.)
- Top it with whipped cream and garnish with sugar sprinkles on top.
Do you have any favourite cocktails??
Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

The Christmas Cookie and Red Rudolph both look absolutely incredible, like Christmas in a bottle. Must try!
Oooh, the Christmas Cookie sounds yummy!
You don’t have to go full on expensive bar cart to have a cute display. I have a slightly taller end table that I got at Fred Meyer with all of my liquor on it. It also has one little drawer that just barely fits a corkscrew, flask, a few coasters, etc. the main thing I love it for though is freeing up cupboard space. My apartment kitchen is tiny.
