Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, Make It Monday

As my Fall To Do List promised, this is the year that I learn to deal with pumpkins! While I love pumpkin pie and pumpkin tarts (so essentially the same thing in different sizes…), I figured it might be time for me to learn how to actually work with it. Once you know how, you can actually do a lot with pumpkin but I always found  it a little overwhelming. My only work with pumpkins is pumpkin carving 15 years ago when cutting into it felt like a Herculean task- so, cooking with pumpkin as an adult, here I come!

Blueberry Pudding Cake, Make It Monday

Now that it is properly autumn, I’m turning to comfort foods. I’m not going to lie, there’s a lot happening in my life right now and it’s wonderful to be able to escape for a little bit and take some time to create something. I’ve been eyeing up pudding style cakes for a while- they scream “cozy” to me, and on the whole look fairly easy to make. (Sometimes I’m all up for a complex and detailed recipe, sometimes I just want to be able to throw things together and go. It was the latter this time…) This is an easy to follow recipe that is a great option for bakers of any ability!

Double Chocolate Fleur de Sel Cookies, Make It Monday

After treating myself to my new Bobbette and Belle  cookbook, I knew that I was going to have to make at least one recipe this week to christen it, and I was  little overwhelmed by all of the choices, to be honest. I almost went with a loaf or muffins for classic fall comfort food, but we were having dinner with some friends and I never arrive without dessert- cookies it is! I’m still trying to work on expanding my repertoire in the kitchen and I have never worked with salted sweets before, so I knew what choice I had to make- Double Chocolate Fleur de Sel cookies.

2 Ingredient Ice Cream, Make It Monday

Me being an ice cream addict and someone who spends far too much time in the kitchen finally gave into the ice cream recipe that is sweeping across Facebook, Pinterest, and every other form of social media out there. I’m always hesitant about miracle recipes that promise the world (and the food) in the easiest of ways but I figured that at the very most, I’m out $8 and a few hours. So, with the allure of ice cream I set off…

Funfetti Sugar Cookies, Make-It-Monday

If there is a person out there who doesn’t like funfetti cookies, I don’t think that I want to meet them. These cookies are a lot of fun to make and a lot of fun to eat- they would be perfect for any sort of party or potluck, or quite frankly even just to eat whenever it strikes your fancy. I was in the mood for baking because it’s been incredibly grey and rainy as of late in Winnipeg and I just wanted something warm! Just a heads up, these are not made from a cake mix like most funfetti style cookies but rather completely from scratch. Now to the fun part!

Snapshot Saturday, 17 June 2017

Snapshot Saturday, the day where you get to see the things that I see! I like to share the little things because that is what makes us who we are and what makes the world go around. I’m also guessing (and hoping) that you are reading this blog because you have at least a tiny bit of interest in what I’m up, and want to share what you’re up to, too. This week is all about summer!

Infused Water, Make-It Monday

At the beginning of May, I shared that I’m trying to cut out pop! Aside from two instances where it served as mix for drinks, I’ve been doing really well. (And I don’t count those as a hit, because quite frankly, it was less than four cups total.) If you know someone who is looking to get into cooking but doesn’t know where to start, this is the easiest place to start; it’s also great if you are trying to cut down on your sugar or caffeine!

Make It Monday- Waffles!

A new feature on the blog will be Make It Monday, where I will share a recipe or DIY that I have recently tried! (If I don’t have one, it will be an open post.) As I’ve discussed in earlier posts, Santa was very good to me and brought me a waffle maker. In due time, I will be making a tater tot waffle but for now, I’m sticking with a classic, standard waffle recipe. This came with the waffle maker, and so far it’s treated me fairly well.

DIY/ Recipe Trial: Chocolate Bark

While my fudge DIY turned out really well- all of it was gone by the end of the day at work- I know that not everyone loves fudge. I personally can eat a little bit of it, but a little bit goes a long way. I was on the hunt for something that was chocolate but not just molded chocolates. (I’ve made them before and want to branch out this year. If you are interested in making a super easy and fast treat, molded chocolates are a great starting point!) I found the idea of chocolate bark on Pinterest, and thus my new DIY was born…. Continue reading

Trial: Pasta Salad

I have deviated from my summer of recipes this week- the London Fog Earl Grey Tea Cake will be pushed later in the summer, I’m going to make it on a weekend when we are having family over so that I have more people to try it! I am trying to amp up my lunch, and change up what I’m eating every day, especially given that I’m bringing dinner, as well, two days a week. My friend Katelynne told me that she just throws pasta salad together, and I figured that I would give it a shot! Continue reading
