Banff Restaurants, Travel Thursday

Obviously I had to talk about where we ate on our trip, and I figured that given that everybody loves food, I should finish my trip coverage off with it. Unless you are Captain Holt from Brooklyn Nine Nine who searches out bland and flavourless food to fill your days, you will need delicious food to power all of your hiking and exploring! Banff is an interesting mixture of chain restaurants, fast food, and unique one offs- these are three of the spots that are unique to Banff. I hope that you enjoy my mini culinary tour of Banff!

Snapshots of Banff, Travel (Thursday)

Today I’m going to be sharing some of my favourite shots from our wanderings around Banff! I find that some of the best pictures from travelling don’t fit neatly into a post but rather are moments caught throughout. I love travelling with the dogs a) because I love Loki and Thor, and b) because you often get to see parts of towns and cities that you might not otherwise have. I normally don’t walk through residential streets when I travel for no reason. It kind of feels like I’m spying and it’s often out of the way. However, when we are with the dogs, it’s much quieter and a better walk. So, here are my favourite snapshots!

Banff Cemetery Walk, Travel Thursday

Being the historian and nerd that I am, of course I sought out some way to learn more of the history of Banff. I’ve already been to the Banff Museum and I wanted to find more of the organic history of the town. While I am not overly interested in Canadian history (far too new for me), I do find the history of mountain and railroad towns quite fascinating- the elite classes of these towns led interesting and complicated lives that are often swept up into the history of the railroad and the mines. So, one afternoon we set out to learn a little more about Banff!

Fairmont Banff Springs, Travel Monday

I know that my travel posts are typically on Thursdays, but I don’t want to “drag out” my Banff posts for a month or more to only post on Thursdays! So, here is a Travel Monday post that I hope you enjoy. While my Travel Thursday post was all about my afternoon tea experience at the Fairmont, I spent some time wandering about the hotel before and after. I decided to do a separate post to showcase the rest of the hotel and my time there, so I hope you enjoy!

Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Banff Springs, Travel Thursday

If you read my Banff To-Do List a couple weeks ago, you will know that taking afternoon tea at the Fairmont Banff Springs was at the top of my list! I’ve been waiting for this for weeks, and it was certainly worth the wait. If you ever happen to find yourself in Banff, you need to spend an hour or two enjoying some wonderful tea and delicious food. You will have some of the best views in the town, five star service, and a peaceful oasis away from the bustle of travel.

Travel Thursday- Banff 2017

Hello all! We made it to Banff in one very long and interesting day. We saw some very boring fields (Eastern Alberta, I’m looking at you), a lot of towns, and some fairly beautiful mountains! I’m incredibly tired but excited to wake up in the Rockies ☺ Continue reading

Banff To-Do List, Travel Thursday

At the beginning of May, I will be heading back to Banff with my dad and brother again- resident dog petter and walker, at your service! While I love just being there and relaxing in such a gorgeous setting, there are a few things that are on my to-do list for this trip. Most of what I plan to do is enjoy the fresh air, get ahead on the blog, and crack through my reading list but I’m going to share a few local to-dos that are at the top of my list!

Fernie, Travel Thursday

Today’s Travel Thursday is my post proper of my Fernie trip a few weekends ago! Canada isn’t as flashy as our neighbour to the south or our parents in Europe, but I like to think that we do still have a few gems that make us worth a visit or two. Banff and Whistler are the more popular skiing and snowboarding destinations in Western Canada; however, the extra hour or so spent driving to Fernie is certainly worth it! These are my highlights from a lovely mountain town… Continue reading

A Photo An Hour… in Fernie! Travel Thursday

I was inspired to do this by Charlotte from Mosaicca- check out Charlotte’s day here! I decided to do this challenge while I was in Fernie, because my weekdays are at work and you don’t need to see 9 hours of my job, and my weekends at home aren’t necessarily terribly exciting, either. However, I knew that enough would be happening in Fernie to keep it interesting! It isn’t quite a photo an hour (I was doing some things longer than an hour, and I didn’t want to give you two identical photos in a row [it might have actually been identical pictures…]) but it’s close. I hope you enjoy a day of my trip!
