Where do we want to go next?

As my previous travel posts indicate, M and I are all about the travel. I feel pretty lucky to find someone who loves travel as much as I do. We also want to go to the same places, so no arguing over a destination! We have quite a list of places to go lined up already: 

1.Seattle, Washington

I am quite excited to go to Seattle- I don’t know if it is high on M’s list because he is moving there, but I’m all for it! From what I have seen, the weather is similar to Dublin. I am hoping this is true, as I love the weather in Dublin. I’m all about drinking tea and reading with a blanket (and a Westie if Daisy is in the mood), and rainy weather is pretty much the best way to bring that about. It seems a very relaxed city, and I am looking forward to wandering with M. I’m also looking forward to seeing the Pacific Northwest, as the countryside looks so green and peaceful.

2. Iceland

I have always wanted to go to Iceland. I grew up hearing stories from my grandparents from trips there, and attending the Icelandic festival in Gimli every year since I was born with more Icelandic people than anywhere (other than Iceland….). M’s interest in and focus on Vikings also leads to Iceland. Thankfully Visit Iceland has convinced airlines to start offering more direct flights to Iceland, making it easier for us marooned in North America to get there. Reykjavik looks like something I never seen, a major city that in no way looks like a major city. Obviously, the Blue Lagoon, the Sun Voyager, and the Golden Circle are on the list for Iceland. It is lovely to find hidden little gems, but you don’t need to skip every main event!

3. Isle of Wight

First Night Design‘s response on one of my earlier posts has opened my eyes to the Isle of Wight! I am familiar with it, but I normally don’t gravitate towards to the haunts of the grumpy namesake of half of the Commonwealth. (I’m sure Victoria was a good time at some point….) However, after googling it- the Isle of Wight looks fairly amazing. Osborne House would be an interesting visit- it does have State Rooms but I would be more interested in seeing the family’s private quarters. I could be very wrong, but it reminds me of a much more populated Inis Mór (the largest Aran Island). My number one spot to visit? The Bat’s Wing Tea Room 🙂

4. Denmark

M is obviously interested in Denmark for the Viking history- I am hoping that the National Museums will have a lot to see. I want to find a recent history of the Vikings to read, but unfortunately the books that M recommended are not available from Chapters, Kobo, or Kindle. (Next step, LIBRARIES 🙂 ) The National Museum on Kildare Street in Dublin has a fantastic amount of Viking artefacts open to the public- I am hopeful that the museums in Denmark are the same! One of my close friends Jillayne did a term abroad in Copenhagen, and it looks absolutely amazing- a Scandinavian Venice, if you will! My number one stop? Frederiksborg Palace. I will always find a royal residence that exists.

I can assure you the list is much longer than this, and that we will always be going back to Dublin, but this is a start!
