If you are like me, you like to find gifts for people when you travel! However, that can be expensive, confusing to decide on something, and difficult to fit in your suitcase when you go home. However, after many, many trips, I have finally found a good gift for friends….
Postcards! You can buy postcards most everywhere you go, you can usually buy them with international postage included, and they combine a small gift with a note to a friend. These had postage included, and were $3.5 apiece. I spent an hour writing these, and then dropped them off at the first mailbox I saw. (Banff is full of mailboxes, so that wasn’t really a challenge. Worse comes to worse, you can always mail them when you get home.) I personally collect keychains, but how many keychains do you need? And what do you get for someone who doesn’t like keychains, or shotglasses, or bookmarks, or whatever it is? These are always a fantastic photo that you most likely wouldn’t be able to take unless you had access to a forbidden area or a helicopter, and unique to wherever you were! Plus, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love to put a few postcards from around the world.
What do you buy for friends and family when you travel? What souvenirs are a good deal and representation of where you went?

Great idea! It’s funny, I used to do this when I was a kid, but I just realized I totally haven’t in years. And I love sending cards!

I’m a big fan of postcards and cards as well. I also sometimes get the typical things for friends: shotglasses, magnets, keychains, christmas ornaments… and usually a regional treat like chocolate, tea or candy.
I’m a lover of snail mail I think I keep canada post in business lol
I will buy shot glasses for the people that I know collect them, but I find that more than 2 or 3 gets fairly heavy! Keychains are my other go-to- we ALL have keys!
I still mail letters and cards 2-4 times a month, and the Canada Post workers asked me last time if I knew what email is 😐
Haha email just isn’t the same! The ladies at my post office in canada knew me by name and that I was dating an englishman as I was in there every week with a package or a lipstick kissed letter headed to the uk :p
I do still send a lot of mail home from the uk but the people are behind glass at the post office here and it’s very formal which I hate. I miss chatting to the nice canada post ladies :p
