History in the Making

Red and Green Wardrobe, Style File Friday

I genuinely love wearing red and green, they are my two favourite colours. (Red works well in the fall and winter, and green is pretty for the spring and summer.) Unfortunately, I rarely have an excuse during most of the year to wear the two of them together- although they are complimentary colours, the world can’t see past their Christmas associations to be okay with it. So, when the Christmas season roles around, I challenge myself to wear red, green, or both every day of the month, and I’ve got to say, I’m getting pretty creative with it!
Christmas Wardrobe

The key to wearing red or green throughout all of December to get creative and go subtle if you need to! I could probably push through with majority red and green items, but I bring in plaids, stripes, and patterns that use incorporate them into a larger colour scheme. Obviously there is more plaid than any one person should have in my red and green collection, but there are sequins and damasks and stripes and cables and solids that keep it interesting along the way. I do try to maintain a fairly classic and elegant wardrobe; however, in December, anything goes.

Throughout December I will be sharing my outfits on most days in my Instagram story- you might see a red stripe, or a green scarf, a necklace that brings out the colour, and even snow monkey mittens with their red mouths! The holiday season is certainly a lot of fun (especially for someone like me who embraces it), but it’s easy to get a little punchy with all of the obligations and commitments combining with the cold weather. Setting myself a goofy little challenge is a good way for me to have fun with my day that doesn’t take a ton of effort.

  • You have so many red and green clothes! These must be your go to colours all year round. Just maybe, not always together!!

  • I have a kiddo, he works wonders for keeping the magic alive. There’s the sheer delight in taking him to see something new, helping him pick out gifts for family, teaching him to give/donate to those with less than he has. Stress wise – I just keep my expectation about the magic to a rational level. LOL

  • I love this idea! Such a fun way to bring a little joy into each day! I don’t own a whole lot of red items, though. Red is not really my color. I am, however, wearing a green-ish (ok, it’s probably more green-blue) flannel today, does that count?!
