Ornament of the Day, #5

From now until Christmas, I will be sharing my favourite ornaments and their stories every Tuesday and Saturday! I collect ornaments of all kinds- our tree is not a cohesive set of ornaments, bought to be one picture but rather a mish-mash of ornaments that are all over the place but each tell their own story. The ornaments that I will be sharing are ornaments that have a unique story or a special meaning to me, and I hope that you enjoy them!

This is one of my absolute favourite ornaments in my collection! My grandmother passed away in October 2015, and it’s especially tough at the holidays not having her here with us. My grandparents are the best gift givers- they always pick the most perfect gifts that you might not have thought of but love more than anything. (My paint night with Grandpa taught by a local artist was amazing.) Well, that extends to the ornaments that we also receive from them. Grandma and Grandpa gave me this when I was younger (probably around 10), and I love it to bits! It is Christmas-y and unique, and always makes me think of Grandma picking it out. I was an incredibly imaginative kid (it might have something to do with the nine million books that I read…), and I loved imagining that somewhere out there, there was a Christmas carousel! (Turns out that there are a ton of them in Europe, and I am coming for you!) This ornament reminds me that the thought and love behind an ornament given makes it that much more special.
