History in the Making

Recipe Plans for the Summer

As I posted a month ago, I am planning on making one new recipe a week! I’ve been compiling recipes- thank you for the recommendations, by the way!!- and making a plan for when I will make what. The date listed will be Saturday, but I will give myself the full week (Saturday to Friday) to make the recipe.

Root Beer Float Pie– June 18

Care of Tasty Junior, this looks like a great starting recipe! Seems fairly inexpensive and easy to make, and it is based on one of my favourite beverage-desserts.

Crock Pot Shredded Beef Tacos- June 25

This is the week that I start my ballet class, and I will be bringing lunch and dinner two days a week now. Hopefully these provide a good amount of leftovers, and the parents enjoy it 🙂

To Be Decided!- July 2

Not sure what to make this week- I think it will be largely dependent on the weather! Probably a dessert or baking of some sort, but the temperature outside will dictate exactly what kind. Throw your recipes here!

Raspberry Pear Crumble– July 9

Crumbles are a fantastic dessert year round- you can enjoy them hot or cold, and ice cream pairs well. While I love buying fresh fruit, raspberries can be expensive fresh even in season. I’m hoping to expand my crumble-abilities!

London Fog Earl Grey Tea Cake– July 16

Thank you to Girl Bout Town for recommending Not Quite Nigella, I found this lovely recipe there! Earl Grey always hits the spot, and I think that this cake will be a good challenge for me. I’ve never worked with caster sugar, should be a good challenge!

Brownie Cookies– July 23

I love brownies. I love cookies. This is happening.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs– July 30

Meatballs are another entrée that makes for good leftovers! While I do not overly enjoy worcestershire sauce, I’m willing to give this sauce a shot. I know that you can buy sweet and sour sauce, but I think that making it would be a good culinary accomplishment.

 Victorian Tea Cake– August 6

Perhaps by the end of the summer, I will be able to make a full array of tea cakes! This is a classic recipe, and I have come across Victorian tea cakes in more novels than I can count. I’m going to be using this summer as a chance to work with other flours; I’m not sure what it is like to use cake and pastry flour. Plus whipped cream is always a good idea in my book.

Nothing!- August 13

I will be in Seattle! If I am able to make something for M and his family, I will make sure to post it :()

To Be Decided-August 20 and 27

I’m not sure what to make these weeks, either, but there is more than enough time to find them.

I am excited develop my culinary skills, and diversify my recipe binder! I need to stop relying on bakeries for cake-type desserts (it’s expensive), and I need to branch out on my meals (it’s boring). I’m also going to make sure that I go to Bulk Barn for all of the “different” ingredients- I have a bad tendency to buy a full package of something when I really only need a tsp or a cup. No more ending up with 1500% of what I actually need! It’s time to be a smart shopper, and a smart cook.

What are your favourite recipes? What are your best shopping tips to keep recipes affordable?

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
