I don’t think that this ornament will come as a surprise to anyone. Shockingly, there are actually not that many show-themed ornaments; at least, not sold officially. (Six the Musical, where is your purple crown ornament?! I’m waiting with baited breath…) However, for the shows that do have them, they don’t tend to be that outrageously priced, comparatively to other merch, at least. ($80 CAD for a thin hoodie is fairly outrageous…) Enter my favourite souvenir from Anastasia/ my recent Toronto trip: my Anastasia ornament!
Anastasia has a fairly good spread of merchandise. They have all of the standards that you would expect- keychains, mugs, t-shirts. However, there are also a few others that are fantastic. The “Royal Mess” pouch is a fantastic nod to the show, and the infamous music box is just gorgeous. (Sadly, I left it behind…) The Anastasia ornament is perfect, though. It was the first thing I purchased at the show, and you can believe that I put it front and centre on the tree for all to see.
What I love about the Anastasia merchandise is that it is definitely paying homage to the show. The musical is absolutely a separate entity from the 1997 film, and the 1956 film. The outline of Anya on the ornament is one of the distinctive images from the show, heading down on her path. I’m also a child, and love ornaments that incorporate any sort of moving parts! The spinner adds dimension, and just makes it fun, quite frankly. And of course, it includes the incredibly suitable quote, “Once Upon a December.” I’ve always connected Anastasia with the holidays because of that particular song, so it is lovely to formalise it with my new ornament.
