M and I really like movies. Movie dates are kind of our thing, and whether they are in a theatre, or at home, they always happen! We watched quite a few movies on this trip, and I have to say, I enjoyed all of them.
Goodfellas– I will admit, I was behind the times in never seeing Goodfellas; I’m happy to say I’m all caught up! I very much enjoyed this movie, it was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. Ray Liotta’s laugh drove me a little nuts, but Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci, and Liotta make for very convincing mafioso! I feel okay being more detailed given that this is over two decades old: I lost interest as soon as they became involved in drugs. It felt like two different movies, and I just didn’t care what happened to them.
This is a fairly new action movie, it came out sometime in December. My parents saw this in theatres, and absolutely loved it! I really wanted to see it, but M was hesitant. His brother joined us, and both of them were ready to jump ship until the 45 minute mark “because it’s a chick-flick”. I don’t think that they watch too many chick-flicks, because it isn’t one, haha! It is slower moving though, in the first half. All three protagonists were funny, and I was surprised by quite a few twists. I would recommend checking this out!
M and his brothers are huge metalheads, so the passing of the lead singer of Motörhead over the break really hit them. Even a non-metalhead such as myself understands how important a figure he was. In order to educate me and remember Lemmy, we watched this 2010 documentary. I found it incredibly insightful. There was a huge range of people interviewed, from people who look up to him, family members, band members, and Lemmy himself. I think having Lemmy featured in the documentary really helped elevate it past the typical “basic information” documentary we so often see. Worth a watch!!
This is an action movie where Keanu Reeves shoots people, and it is thoroughly entertaining. There is a really sad bit with a dog, FYI.
I had never heard of this movie, and it is now ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME. It is a mockumentary about a dog show, and follows a handful of dogs and their colourful owners. Eugene Levy is hysterical, you should watch it for his performance alone! The dogs are adoooooorable, and spoiler alert: THERE IS A TERRIER. (It’s not a Westie 🙁 ) My only beef is: there was a husky and a Westie, and neither of them won??? 6/5 STARS!!
Our movie-viewing experience started off poorly for Sisters, as we saw trailers for possibly the worst movies to come out in a long while. However, once we got to the actual movie, it was fantastic! Amy Poehler was in a Leslie Knope type role, while Tina Fey was in a party girl role- and she delivered. It is certainly an adult humour, and I would say that I am on the younger side of the target demographic. They are two sisters (duuuuuuh) that have one last party in their childhood home before it is sold. The party guests are a smorgasbord of SNL and 30 Rock alum, making it even more hilarious. Go see this the first chance you have!!
Sometimes it is nice to watch an older movie; just as entertaining but you can watch it at home in your pyjamas! Have you seen any movies lately, new or old, to recommend??

I heard that Man from U.N.C.L.E. was a bit like Kingsman: The Secret Service. Have you seen that one? Is that a fair comparison?
Definitely a similar movie! I would say Kingsman was a tad funnier, but same spy action/comedy genre! If you liked Kingsman, certainly check out UNCLE!!
I forgot about Best in Show! I must rewatch that immediately!
