History in the Making

Make It Monday- Waffles!

A new feature on the blog will be Make It Monday, where I will share a recipe or DIY that I have recently tried! (If I don’t have one, it will be an open post.) As I’ve discussed in earlier posts, Santa was very good to me and brought me a waffle maker. In due time, I will be making a tater tot waffle but for now, I’m sticking with a classic, standard waffle recipe. This came with the waffle maker, and so far it’s treated me fairly well.

Firstly, the recipe:
Basic Waffles
-2 cups (500ml) flour
-2 tablespoons (30ml) sugar
-1 tablespoon (15ml) baking powder
-1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
-1 2/4 cups (425ml) milk
-1/3 cup )85ml) vegetable oil
-2 eggs
1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
2. Whisk together milk, oil, and eggs.
3. Gradually add milk micture to the dry ingredients.
4. Stir until just blended.
5. Pour batter onto waffle maker.
6. Leave in waffle maker to cook until green light is lit.
My thoughts?
– It doesn’t spread overly easily. I have tried adding a little more milk to make it a touch thinner, but they don’t raise in the same way. You will either need to spread it with your spoon/scoop, or accept that they might not be perfect squares. (Too much and it will overrun!)
I’m okay with less than square waffles because they are delicious and super easy to make! A batch will make 10-14 waffles, depending on how big they are- easily enough to feed my parents and myself and leave some to freeze to take work later in the week!

Until tomorrow,
