I know that I am fifteen years behind the Lush trend, but it was one of my favourite beauty discoveries of 2019. I’m trying to make smart choices for what I put on and into my body, and to be better to myself and the environment. Lush is certainly still a luxury for me; most products aren’t a must-have, but rather a want. As much as I would love a daily bath bomb, that isn’t in the budget. However, I did take advantage of the Lush Boxing Day Sale this year, and got quite a few items. For the first Style File Friday of 2020, I’m going to be sharing my Lush Boxing Day Sale experience, and what I chose!
From what I’ve heard from more experienced Lushies, the Boxing Day sale is pure insanity. The website continually sells out and orders are cancelled because of the crazy order of volumes. Stores are also insane, with crowds, line ups and intense costumers. So, I got up on Boxing Day with the intention that I would get to the mall at 7:30am for the 8:00am open time, knowing that I would have to wait awhile… And then I was miraculously first in line! I went to the smaller mall here in Winnipeg, and it was actually pretty relaxed, not what I was expecting at all. There was about 25 people lined up by 8am but everyone was quite polite and friendly. It did seem odd to me that so many people were buying 15+ of the same item, but I might just be out of the loop! In the past, I believe that Boxing Day is usually Buy One, Get One Free, but was simply 50% off this year. (Only on seasonal items, not the whole store.) My total came out to $40.01, perfectly on budget! And what did I get, you might ask?
I focused on the Lush naked products, meaning that they don’t have any extra packaging. I did grab the paper bags, but will be recycling them after use. They do have an excellent recycling program for their plastic containers, though! (I believe if you bring in five of the black pots, you get a free face mask.)
Lush Soaps
I already have two different Lush soaps, Butterbear and the Satsuma soap. Both smell lovely without being too overwhelming, and are quite fun to look at/use! And for $6-10 CAD, they aren’t outrageously priced given how long you can use them.
I am trying not to stock pile, but I did get a third Butterbear soap! Being truthful, I bought a second in the beginning of December, so I will use the second after this, and then save the third for August/September when I start getting Christmas-y. I really enjoy these little guys, they are just too adorable. There is also a Butterball bath bomb with the same scent, but that isn’t as cute as a little bear…
I did try the Snow Fairy soap, but it made me sneeze so many times in the shower that I nearly fell. So, I exchanged it for the Satsuma, which I love. However, the Winter Berry was an almost purchase, and at 50% off, I couldn’t say no. Once my Satsuma runs out in the shower, I will use this Winter Berry soap- it smells lovely, and has raspberry seeds for exfoliation. Winter ready, indeed!
Bubble Bars
Lush bubble bars are one of those products that seem like the ultimate indulgence; I would love to use them regularly, but can’t justify the price. However, at 50% off, I’m in. And if you are wondering how exactly you would use a reusable bubble bar, Lush helpfully provides instructions:
1. Run your bath water
2. Hold your reusable bubble bar, bubble spinner or wand under the tap
3. Splash the water around to get some bubbles going.
4. Put your reusable bubble bar aside and let it dry for next time.
Given my love of Christmas, this Santa bubble bar shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone! He’s actually pretty hefty, and I would guess that I will be able to get at least 3 uses out of it. I’ve got to say, that is pretty sparkly, so you definitely need a paper bag for it. I will reserve a review until I actually use this, but I already enjoy the peppermint smell.
Other than Snow Fairy, Yog Nog seems to be the holiday scent at Lush. I didn’t mind it in stores, but I wasn’t obsessed in any way. However, I was quite interested in trying one of the bubble bars, and I don’t think the scent will be overpowering. From what I can tell from the Youtube videos I’ve watched, I just cut/crumble it with a knife and drop it in when drawing the bath. It seems fairly dense, so I’m interested to see how much I really need for proper bubbles!
Bath Oil
I was actually hoping to get a couple of these bath oil tablets, but they were mostly sold out before Boxing Day. Still, I’ve enjoyed the bath oils that I’ve tried from Lush before. They are one of the more confusing Lush products for me- there isn’t anything to really watch as they dissolve, and they don’t feel markedly moisturising. However, I do enjoy the pleasant smell, and if I just consider it a slightly nicer bath, it is really just a bonus. (It should last 2-3 baths, if I break it up!)
Bath Bombs
And what would Lush be without their bath bombs? I don’t know that I will start regularly buying Lush bath bombs. Yes, they are quite beautiful and fun to watch, but it really is a luxury for me. $10 CAD or more is a LOT for one bath, and while I like them, I don’t know that I love them to that extent. Still I did want to try some of the fancier ones, so I grabbed a few at 50% off!
What would Christmas be without Rudolph? I actually bought three of these! There wasn’t a huge amount of selection at the Lush that I went to, but they had many Rudolphs left. At under $3 CAD, I figured I could make that splurge. And although the water makes a weird orange colour, the smell is just lovely. Marzipan, I can’t say no to that scent!
Don’t Let the Bells End Amazeball
Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of this bath bomb. It is safely stored in my bathroom cupboard, as to not loose the contents. This is fairly sizeable bath bomb- it has a little present you can take out, and there is bubble bath powder inside! I will be using this in 2-3 different baths, so I’m interested to see what the bubble bath powder does. (Will it truly bubble??) In any case, I can see why it is normally $11 CAD, as it is quite large. When I do take it out to use it, I will take a photo and update this post!
