It will not surprise anyone that I, an historian, have many history related ornaments on my tree. Obviously, I’ve got my favourite historical figures represented on the tree with Jane Austen and Mary, Queen of Scots. And we can’t forget my Crown to Couture exhibition ornament. However, I’ve also got a few that represent historic moments that I’ve lived through myself. This is a newer ornament on my history tree, but I had to share it. Here is my Ornament of the Day: King Charles III Coronation Ornament!
King Charles III Coronation Ornament
As an historian of modern monarchy, September 2022 through May 2023 was a fascinating time for me. While it was a time of mourning, the public was also able to see and experience several different ceremonies and elements that we traditionally have been unable to see. (The Accession Council in particular was important, for me.)
The Royal Collection Trust made several items for the Coronation (unsurprisingly). I did not get as many as you might think (though I did get a few from Cath Kidston and Fortnum and Mason). I knew that I wanted to get one of the tree decorations, though.
This navy embroidered and beaded tree decoration is beautiful, and I think suits the occasion well. (It also pairs nicely with my Platinum Jubilee corgi decoration.)
Fabric Ornaments
Here is also where I make my pitch to you for fabric ornaments. Almost of my historic related ornaments are flat, fabric ornaments (usually velvet) with beading and embroidery. Not only do they look great on a tree, they are also unbreakable (helpful if you have pets or kids). And they make for very easy storage and/or transportation if you are buying while travelling.
