One of my favourite holiday series is back again: Ornament of the Day! While this might seem like a silly series to some, it emphasises the personal side of history. Christmas and the holiday season in general tend to have an incredibly personal element when we are looking at history. And for me, that really manifests itself in my ornaments. I have collected many, many ornaments that are dear to me over the years. Some are gifts, some are pieces I’ve picked up myself. But all have a special place on my tree. And today, I have a history one for you! My first Ornament of the Day of Blogmas 2024 is my Crown to Couture Ornament!
Crown to Couture Ornament
This is truly one of the most beautiful ornaments that is on one of my trees. (Yes, I have two.) The artwork on this ornament is stunning, and it makes the ornament stand out in the best way possible. This ornament is from the “Crown to Couture” exhibition that Historic Royal Palaces held at Kensington Palace in 2023.
While I unfortunately was not able to go, one of my wonderful friends was and she got this ornament for me. (She also got me the “Crown to Couture” magazine catalogue that went with it!) It now has a point of pride on my tree- both for the fashion history and my own personal history.

This exhibition was not only incredible for the Georgian and modern fashion on display (including several pieces you will recognise), it shows the strong connections between the past and our world.
