History in the Making

Depending on who you ask, lake life is a big deal

Here in Manitoba, a lot of people are obsessed with their cottages, and that can go one of two ways.

People are either obsessed like you, and completely agree, orrrr they aren’t. I personally am not. I get incredibly frustrated by people who say they can’t do anything Friday to Sunday (not even Sunday night) because “they might miss lake time”. I don’t believe it will kill anyone to come in from the lake three hours earlier. Instead of lamenting and wailing that you “want as much time there as possible”, be thankful for the time you have. It comes up in every area of my life- work, friends, Alpha Gam/Junior Circle, and it drives me insane. When you are trying to plan something, and you’ve already lost three days of the week, it gets damn near impossible to plan anything. I’m giving up.

My family does have a cottage, on the beautiful Lake Winnipeg. Some summers I spend a lot of weekends here, some very few. In any case, it’s usually made up reading, walks with Loki, and relaxing. I love the time I do have here, it’s incredibly relaxing. If I have to come in for something on a Sunday night, well, at least I got 45 hours instead of 48. This is a little bit of what I am lucky enough to see:

Enjoy the time you do have at your lake (if you have it), but please- not to the point of massively disrupting everyone else. The world needs to be less me- focused!

I’ll leave you with some of the best ice cream around, Dairy Bee!
