“Skimm”ing?

I recently signed up for the Skimm,  the daily news email that seems to be popping up everywhere, more and more. A few thoughts on it:

What is the big deal? It’s a news newsletter, I feel like I’m not seeing some hidden part of it, like there is an invisible link I should click on to go to the good stuff.

Is it not incredibly short? I’m guessing this is the appeal for most people, but I can spare more than a minute and half for news. After reading 4 sentences on something, I don’t know anything more than when I started. I really wish there was more meat to it. There are also only what, four, maybe five stories a day in an email?

DON’T ASK ME TO SIGN UP UNDER YOUR LINK. These stupid links have been showing up all over my newsfeed and twitter. I signed up on my own (I didn’t realise that signing up under a link meant anything), and I one million percent refuse to ask people to sign up for my team or whatever it is. Apparently they start asking you at 5 weeks- don’t know if I will last that long.

It’s American, and I am not- I can appreciate that for Americans, having a different electoral candidate interviewed each day is helpful, but for a Canadian who has their own candidates, I could care less.

Overall, it’s fine but not anything terribly exciting.

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

  • I really like the Skimm! I don’t ask people to sign up for it, because, really, they’ll find it if they want. I’m not great at keeping up with the news, so I like it for just keeping up with current events. I can read it while having my cup of coffee before work. It’s not for everyone, but it works really well for me!

    • That does make sense! I already spend 15-20 minutes a day reading the news, so it’s kind of duplicating what I’ve already read, but if you haven’t, it would be good 🙂
