Clinique Spring Pinks Gift, Style File Friday

As the last few beauty related Style File Friday posts have explained, I am make up challenged. However, the exception to that rule of my life is Clinique- it’s the one brand that I am familiar and comfortable with, probably because I started with their Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief and it changed my skin’s life. I haven’t needed anything Clinique lately so I hasn’t been to The Bay lately, but that changed this past weekend! I repurchased my moisturiser AND was able to take advantage of one of those “gift with purchase” deals- and I’m very glad that I did.

With a $35 purchase, you had your choice of a Spring Nudes or Spring Pinks gift set- as implied by my newly purchased Naked3, I am all about the pinks. The first high end/professional make up that I ever purchased a full size of was a Clinique shadow duo, and it was because I tried it from a travel size! So, what did I end up with this time?
-Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+
-Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
-Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara
-Long Last Lipstick
-Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser
-All About Shadow Duo (Ballet Flats and Morning Java)
-Blushing Blush Powder Blush

I already have the Moisture Surge (see above), and I’ve also used the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+! I’ve not specifically bought the Lotion+ but I’ve received several travel sizes samples- it’s perfect for plane travel. I find that it’s a little heavy for regular face use but it works in a pinch and counteracts the damage of travel.
Chubby Lash Fattening Masccara, you didn’t win me over. I used to use the High Impact Mascara from Clinique; it is a decent mascara but not better than my $4 Covergirl mascara. This Chubby Lash Mascara is not really anything to write home about, it looked fairly thick for the first few hours and slowly came off. I’m glad I tried it, though!
The Long Lasting Lipstick (in Watermelon) is actually long lasting, I already own this in a gorgeous deep red shade. I’m excited to wear this pink for the summer, and I might actually pick it up in the full size. I don’t wear lipstick a lot, but I think that this is a good choice for me.
The Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser worked quite well! I haven’t ever seen this in a gift or travel set, so I was pretty excited to see it. It’s great for sensitive skin and you don’t need a lot of product to work up a good lather. It’s only $25 for the full size tube, and from all of the research on skincare I’ve done that is actually quite a good price. There is also no fragrance, if that’s a concern!
All About Shadow Blush
And now for the Shadow Duo and Blush- I love them. I mean, I knew that I would. First of all, you gave me the colour “Ballet Flats”? Clearly I was going to make that work. It’s wonderful quality, long lasting, and the duo allows for shading (á la the crease- you make up savy folks probably know where else to put it….). It’s nice and light, has a little bit of shimmer but not too much, and minimal kick up! The blush is also lovely- it is a cool toned pink that goes on fairly sheer but can be layered for more of an effect. I’ve got to say, Clinique does a wonderful job with their powdered products!
Have you used any of these products? And do you wait for gift sets?
Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

  • I just got the Clinique “gift with purchase” today and the got the Spring Pinks set as well!! The eye shadow and blush combo look perfectly suited for me (I’m super pale with dark hair) but I think the lip colour looks better if I apply it with a lipstick brush vs. just applying it straight from the tube! Using the brush allows me to layer on the colour so it doesn’t look too bright!

  • The only makeup I wear is from the clinque bonus packs lol I buy their 3 step skin care and their powder foundation. I try to buy when they have the bonus so I have tons of lipstick options and eyeshadow that was all free.

  • Growing up I always loved Clinique’s moisturizer. These days I used Aveeno, but if I ever go back to a non-drugstore brand, it’ll be Clinique. The ballet flat shade sounds perfect for you! And good to know that their mascara isn’t worth the additional cost compared to a drugstore mascara!
