Canadian Thanksgiving, Make It Monday

Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow Canadians (and anyone else who wishes to celebrate)! Although a lot of the world thinks that Canada and the US do everything together, our Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October, instead of the fourth Thursday of November, and that is today!! Time to enjoy a cornucopia of different foods and sink into a food coma that is worthy of the longest nap possible. I thought I would share what exactly we have for Thanksgiving dinner, as there is a wide variety in what people actually have!

Kitchen Time Savers- Make It Monday

We all have busy lives and take more shortcuts than we would like, particularly in the kitchen. Of course it’s easier to simply stop at the grocery store on the way home or run to Starbucks instead of making things yourself, but with a bit of practice and creativity, you can save yourself time and work when you really need to! These are time savers that have actually worked for me and I use- sometimes Pinterest hacks aren’t quite as easy or successful as they would make it seem… These four suggestions are easy and fast, and don’t require any speciality equipment or skills!

Snapshot Saturday, 1 July 2017

Happy Canada Day!! For anyone who doesn’t know, we became our own country on 1 July 1867, meaning that this is our 150th anniversary! There are Canada 150 signs everywhere and this is set to be the biggest Canada Day in my memory. I will be out at Gimli, MB for the day (the largest Icelandic settlement outside of Iceland for anyone curious) and will be posting my adventures throughout the day on Instagram and FB but I have been starting the celebrations a little early…

Soft Pretzels, Make It Monday

After my cinnamon bun post, I’ve been musing on what I can do with my remaining yeast packets! It doesn’t need to be used right away but I do find that if I let them go too long, I forget we have them and either buy new packets or end up staring at an expired yeast packet. So, I decided to go with soft pretzel bites- while a full pretzel will hit you a little hard on the calorie/carb side (I’m trying my best to stay healthy), this little guys will satisfy your pretzel craving while not being too much on the health side! Trial: Root Beer Float Pie

I’ve kicked off my summer of recipes! Root Beer Float Pie was first up. I was at the lake this past weekend, and I figured that it would be the perfect place to make- I just brought our handmixer from home for the whipped cream. And if you had to whip it by hand, you could! (Your arm might fall off after, though….)  Continue reading

Favourite Places, St. James’ Pub (Banff)

Everyone in my family always raves about St James’ Pub in Banff. I was skeptical- I lived in Dublin for a year, you don’t really find better pubs than Dublin. We headed straight here after we checked into our hotel on the Friday night of the long weekend! After a 14 hour drive, it was lovely to take a bit of a walk down the strip to get to the pub. Trial: Poutine

Poutine! If you aren’t familiar with poutine, it is a Canadian delicacy of fries, gravy, and cheese curds. Originally from Quebec, it is common in most restaurants here. Weirdly, I only started eating it about 5 months ago. However, I don’t want to always to go to a restaurant just to have poutine.
