Today is a bit of a different post for me. We are not chatting about history or culture today, but a change for An Historian About Town. I have been mulling on potential changes for quite a while, and I’ve finally made my decision. I will be launching the An Historian About Town substack newsletter!
The An Historian About Town Newsletter
Currently I have a free newsletter that goes out once a month; many of you might be subscribed. I include personal updates, blog post recommendations, book recommendations, unique newsletter content, and more. It is crazy to think that I launched the newsletter four years ago, in April 2019. I am proud of what I’ve accomplished with it, but it is time for a change. The last free An Historian About Town newsletter will go out in April!
Note: all blog content will remain free on An Historian About Town. Nothing will be put behind a paywall, and all blog posts will remain free to access on the blog.

The An Historian About Town Substack Newsletter
I am now launching my An Historian About Town substack newsletter! This will be a paid, twice-monthly newsletter- new posts will be uploaded on the first and third Sundays of each month. The subscription price is $5 CAD/month, or $50 CAD/year (that is two months free). While some newsletter content will remain the same, there will be new content! You can expect the following:
-Book previews for upcoming books
-Period Drama reviews (new and old)
-Just for the newsletter history posts
-Article recommendations
-Royal news discussions (*see below)
-Personal updates
*My monthly Musings on Monarchy posts will continue through May 2023 on the blog as usual. All royal news items will then be solely in the newsletter. (This will allow me to share Coronation news in the meantime.)

Why Am I Launching a Paid Newsletter
I very much understand that now more than ever, we are all consciously looking at our wallets and evaluating our budgets. I have gone back and forth several times on whether I not I wanted to charge for a newsletter or a podcast or whatever. However, I have come to the conclusion that I believe that I offer content of value, and that this allows me to balance leaving blog content free while monetising in a small way. I have no plans of quitting my job or anything like that. It would be lovely to cover the extensive costs of running a blog, though, and just a tiny fraction of my time. If people are unable to subscribe or do not want to subscribe, I am not offended at all. However, I appreciate any and all support!

How Do I Subscribe?
If you would like to subscribe, you can use this link here: https://anhistorianabouttown.substack.com/?r=kohgn&utm_campaign=pub&utm_medium=web! The first post will be going out on Sunday, 2 April 2023. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email directly at AnHistorianAboutTown@gmail.com!
Note: I will not be moving any current newsletter subscribers over to Substack, as I do not want anyone accidentally charged. If you would like to subscribe to the new newsletter, you will need to subscribe via the link!
I am quite excited about this next step and grateful for the support!
Cheers,
The Historian
