*cue The Lion King* It is time- An Historian About Town is back from summer hiatus! I am happy to say that it was a great summer and that it was exactly what I needed. Lots of reading, a good amount of catching up on television I’ve missed, dog walks, and watching more Olympics than anyone probably should. (Don’t forget: the Paralympics start soon!) I am happy for the site to be returning again, though. There is something about autumn and getting lost in history that speaks to me, and I love being able to share that. Here are our An Historian About Town Fall 2024 plans!
Book Bites
I am happy to share that I have an embarrassing number of books to share with you over the coming months. I’ve been reading across several genres and trying to find more new-to-me authors, which keeps everything fresh. And I’m not ashamed to admit that my bid to read more classics (that I’ve not already read) has been greatly helped by buying visually appealing copies. (My local bookstore has a table where you can get 3 books for $10 CAD, so I’ve been taking advantage of that.)

History Series Returning
I’m going to assume that if you are here and reading this blog, you at the very least enjoy history. Several series will be resuming this month! We have our August Consort of the Month post this week- I love this series as it allows us to explore the consorts who have been so often ignored throughout history. Court Painters will also be back, a look at the artists behind the surviving visual records we have of many people from history. And of course, the History of Royal Palaces will also be returning this month. (I have to say, I’m having a lot of fun researching this series- thank you to everyone who uploads videos, blog posts, and photos when they visit palaces!)
Style File Friday Returns
Style File Friday will also be returning this autumn! My plan for now is for a Style File Friday post on the first Friday of each month, but if that changes, I will share more info. SFF can be tricky, as there often are not a lot of photos or videos that I can access to share and it seems somewhat lacking to have a fashion history post without any visual representation, but I’ve now got some posts for you!

Blogmas 2024
As much as I love the holiday season, it is still in fact August (when this is publishing). Blogmas 2024 with daily posts will be happening from 23 November to 31 December, but I will save further information on that for closer to the holidays. For now, it is almost time for mysteries (as I’m always drawn to in autumn) and Women’s History Month in October (here in Canada)!.
