You Can Find Any Kind of Colouring Book

As my first post on colouring books indicated, I am a huge fan! I thought that the trend might die down quickly, given that it is rather a niche hobby. However, I am still seeing a proliferation of colouring books in any number of designs, topics, and themes. You can find them based on books and television shows and movies, of animals and landscapes, of mandalas and flowers, even of curse words and death. You can buy them in drugstores and bookstores and grocery stores and Amazon and Etsy. If there is a colouring book that you could imagine, it probably exists. And if it doesn’t, there’s probably someone willing to make it for you. There are two in particular that have been keeping me occupied as of late:

Colours of Jane Austen, Indigo


This colouring book is an Indigo exclusive, and I actually managed to get this for free (via a $10 credit coupon for chapters) in May! I love Jane Austen, and I’ve actually started in one my challenge from my 30 Things to Do Before I Turn 30 list of reading all six Jane Austen novels in the span of one year or less. Unfortunately my favourite Austen novel, Northanger Abbey, was not included but it does feature Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensitivity, and Emma! While it features scenes with characters and different settings, my favourite pages thus far are those of the crafts and clothing that Jane’s ladies would have worn and created. These pages are quite detailed without being so much so that you grow frustrated. I might actually frame some of these, depending on me being able to locate suitable and inexpensive frames! I’m very much hoping that Indigo creates more of these colouring books- literature and colouring is a wonderful pairing.

Royal Family Special, Colouring Heaven


I am incredibly lucky- my sister and brother-in-law bought me this for my birthday! I had spotted it right after I bought my Jane Austen colouring book, but I didn’t buy it because I had just purchased another colouring book. However, my sister took note of it and got it for me! It features pages from the Tudors to the Windsors, including Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Queen Victoria, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It also includes several pages that are designs of crowns, emblems, and plumage in case you are not always included to colour people. While I am still hoping to buy myself the Duchess of Cambridge fashion colouring book, I love that this book isn’t dedicated to one person or even one dynasty. The history nerd in me is overjoyed that someone took the time to actually draw all of these, and that my family gave it to me!

While I do have many pencil crayons, I am feeling the markers more right now. While I have some Crayola and no name markers, I am mostly using Faber-Castell markers at the moment. They are quite expensive ($17 CAD for 6 markers) but have beautiful colours and beautiful brush tips. If you are really interested in colouring I can’t recommend these enough! You can find them at most craft stores.
