And we are back with another Ornament of the Day! I’ve got to say, I know that these are more personal history per se, but I love these posts. Holidays are often a useful lens to look back on our own history. (Also, I would love to see your favourite ornaments- please send me a message or an email with them!) However, these particular ornaments are new to me but old in the world, if you will. I found these vintage dress ornaments on my recent trip to Toronto, and they are certainly the perfect addition to my tree.
I chatted a little bit about the Toronto Christmas Market yesterday for the history of Christmas markets. Yes, there were the requisite carollers and alcohol and delicious desserts. However, there were also some very cool little shops, that are there in the distillery district all year round. We popped into GW General Store, and there was more ornaments than I knew what to do with…
We spotted these two vintage dress ornaments, and I immediately fell in love. They were only $5 CAD apiece, and are exactly what I am looking for at the moment. Sustainable? Yes, they are made from reused materials (the blue felt is V. cool). Souvenir from a trip? Definitely! Sure, I’ve been to Toronto before, but this was rather a special trip. A nod to history? Even better, it is a nod to fashion history, and I couldn’t ask for anything better.
You can always find new, bulk ornaments when you travel, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I skew towards a little different or special, though, and I am thrilled with these ornaments. (The beaded “hangers” are a great touch, and are what really sold me…)
