Ornament of the Day: Paper Snowflake

As indicated by my Blogmas posts and continual ornament sharing, I adore Christmas tree ornaments. They are some of my favourite souvenirs from trips, and my favourite gifts from friends and family. I also buy myself ornaments, though, and this is one of those purchases. This beautiful little paper snowflake is a 2019 purchase and I’m excited to put it out on the tree. However, while it is a pretty ornament, there are a few other reasons I was excited to get this ornament. This paper snowflake ornament is a blast from the past and the perfect addition to my tree!

I bought this at a local craft sale in October. I wasn’t specifically looking for ornaments, but I was happy to spot it! Blacknot Farm made this cute little ornament, they are a local Winnipeg company that makes rustic decor and artwork. Rustic tends not to be my style, but I loved the vintage feeling of a paper snowflake and supporting a local artisan. And once I saw that I was made from upcycled book pages, I was sold! (Any way to give a forgotten book a new life is okay by me.) And for only $7 CAD, it is an incredibly affordable ornament.

I was also largely drawn to this ornament specifically because it is a green ornament. Green as in sustainable, that is. I tend to keep ornaments for decades and I’m not throwing them out. However, I’m trying to focus on making my Christmas more sustainable and this is a great place to start. Not all ornaments are particularly environmentally friendly, but recycled ornaments are the best place to start. (Maybe next year, I will figure out how to make one myself?!)

Do you have any recycled ornaments, like this paper snowflake ornament?
