History in the Making

Trial: Poutine

Poutine! If you aren’t familiar with poutine, it is a Canadian delicacy of fries, gravy, and cheese curds. Originally from Quebec, it is common in most restaurants here. Weirdly, I only started eating it about 5 months ago. However, I don’t want to always to go to a restaurant just to have poutine.

Annnnnnnnnnd then I found out the Clubhouse has a poutine gravy mix! This is a super easy recipe, if we are calling it a recipe. It is fries, gravy, and cheese curds- some cheapo restaurants will use shredded cheese but those are abhorrent businesses that shouldn’t be able to sell food. (We Canadians feel strongly about about curds vs. shredded.)

Recipe:

  1. Bake fries.
  2. Cook gravy (gravy mix plus 2 cups of water).
  3. Put fries on plate or in bowl, place cheese curds on top.
  4. Pour gravy on top of cheese curds and fries.
  5. Say sorry 3 times and yell “Go Jets Go!”!

I know some people make their own poutine gravy, but I find that spices are more difficult for me to mix, especially given that I’m new to the poutine game.

Do you have any favourite Canadian foods?

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
