I have been baking a fair amount, but nothing new, so I haven’t had any trials to post. Well, I decided to try some double chocolate cookies! I probably could have spent more time deciding which recipe to go with, but I picked one from the Food Network.
I don’t know why, but I don’t seem to have great luck with Food Network recipes.
The recipe: Chewy Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups margarine
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups chocolate chips
Directions
- I double this recipe. **Recipe note, not mine.**
- Cream together the margarine, sugar, then add the eggs and vanilla.
- Blend in the cocoa and add baking soda, salt and blend well.
- Add the flour into the creamed mixture and fold in the chocolate chips.
- Bake at 350° for 8-9 minutes.
What changes did I make?
-I used butter instead of margarine. If I’m going to consume fat, I’m just going to go for it. I hate the taste of margarine, be it on toast, or in baking- it has to be butter. There was also an extra quarter cup of butter.
-I used an extra half cup of chocolate chips.
-It was looking dry, I added an extra quarter cup of oil.
Despite all of the extra moisture (1/4 cup butter + 1/4 cup oil), these were still dry. Like dry out your mouth dry. The only bits of moisture were the chocolate chips. I am extremely disappointed in this recipe, and I would not under any circumstances recommend making these. My best suggestion? Find a baking blog with a double chocolate chip cookie recipe and try that! Baking specific blogs usually have stronger recipes (in my experience).
Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

It’s not double but the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I make is on the back of the Hershey’s Chipits pack (they’re pure semi-sweet). If you haven’t tried it yet I highly suggest it.
The Hershey’s and Nestlé recipes are both solid recipes! I like to branch out and see if I can find hidden gem recipes but sometimes it’s a big swing and a miss 🙁
