Last week, there was a baby shower for my nephew! It was quite fun, though it continually made me realise that although I am fairly well-versed in most areas of etiquette, I have absolutely no clue what you do at/for a baby shower. I mean I get that there are presents, but what else happens??
I made our family recipe shortbread and the Butter Baked Goods sugar cookies for the shower, I got rave reviews! (Someone asked me if I made them with my hands, which made me think, are there people making cookies with their feet?? Am I out of touch with current baking trends??) I really enjoy baking, so I am glad that everyone else enjoyed it as well. We also had veggie trays, dainty trays, cheese and crackers, the usuals. (I will admit to chowing down on veggie trays for days- I can’t say no.) I was surprised there was wine, but then again, I don’t drink wine so I don’t notice it a lot of places!
There was over 30 people there, which I would call a rousing success! While my sister opened many thoughtful and generous gifts, my nephew was passed around like some sort of baby hot-potato. Okay, that might be an exaggeration, people took their time with him! He cried a little at the beginning, but was otherwise great. He is a funny little guy, and I am hoping he stays a goofball!
What did I get him? Baby Lit books! I worked at a bookstore for years, and I thought these were a great idea when they came out. They are baby versions of classic literature that teach babies different things depending on the book- anatomy, counting, colours, weather, opposites, you name it, it’s somewhere! I picked Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, Wuthering Heights, and Dracula for him, a good start to what will be a baller book collection. Overall, the evening was great!
Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
