This year I haven’t been able to travel quite as much as I would like to- the Canadian dollar isn’t particularly strong right now, and student loan and car payments aren’t helpful if you are trying to save for a trip. M and I do hopefully have a trip to Europe in the spring or summer sometime, but in the meantime I have absolutely loved my throwback travel posts. These three posts were the most popular “vintage” travel posts of 2016!
Travel Thursday, Picadilly Circus
I think that Picadilly is one of those uniquely English places- the Georgian architecture, the history, the bustling lights, Regent Street right there (along with Fortnum and Mason….)! This was a particular favourite post of mine, I loved writing it and reliving wandering through the area.
Favourite Place, Charlottenburg Palace
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got to Berlin- I knew that a good deal of the city was destroyed in the Second World War, but I didn’t know what it would look like after the rebuilding. Surprisingly I found that a lot of Berlin looked like a North American city, a lot of standard concrete box-type office buildings. However, Charlottenburg Palace was restored and is gorgeous. The detail and opulence throughout is breathtaking and I truly believe that everyone who visits Berlin should stop here!
Favourite Place, Westminster
Arguably, Westminster is the heart of England, or at least the heart of the politics and religion. Between Parliament and the Abbey, countless events of importance happen in these few square kilometres! I love the architecture of the area, and all of the hidden gems, ie. This fantastic statue of Churchill! (Although I suppose it’s the opposite of hidden, in this case…)
