Thoughts I *should* have in airports

In a sequel to my post, “Thoughts I have in airports” these are the thoughts that I should have in airports.

1.Stick to bagged snacks, food that you bring yourself, and NOTHING ELSE.

I’m not one hundred percent sure if I had a 24 hour flu or food poisoning, but I’m never taking that chance again. Tis better to starve than endure that again :/

2. “Is my luggage actually going to leave my departure city?”

On my way there, I had to do US customs in Calgary before continuing on. I spent over an hour waiting for my checked bag in the pre-check area. I did the TSA pre-screening five times because I had to keep leaving to talk to West Jet. West Jet could not have cared less. At first I had to wait until two hours before my flight time. That came and went. Then they radio’d a few spots in the airport (but didn’t actually go or send anyone to check). I asked them to phone West Jet in Winnipeg to see if my bag actually left. “No, no, we can’t do that. West Jet in Winnipeg will realise they have a bag that they shouldn’t and they will call us.” WHAT? Can we try to be proactive about this? Nope. “Awesome.” If Melissa R. from Delta hadn’t jumped in at this point, I would have not had my checked luggage AND missed my flight to Seattle.

She was amazing, she waited with me a touch longer to see if my bag would show up by miracle, waited for me to get through customs, and took me to the front of the security line. I was lucky enough that she happened to be working at the same time I was there! The West Jet staff were entirely useless, and went back to aimless chatting every single time possible. Considering that they are trying to be Canada’s # 1 airline, with cheerful and engaging staff from start to finish, these three workers really dropped the ball. I fly a fair bit, and I think I will be staying with Air Canada. West Jet, you lost a lot of potential business.

On the evening when I got there, we stopped at the Gap and Target so I would have some clothing to wear other than my one day of spare clothing that I always travel with and some toiletries. I spent $130 at each store, ouch! I was hoping that I could return the $70 jeans from the Gap, and whatever unused make up/toiletries I bought from Target- that would make a big difference.

Do you have any flying horror stories?? (This isn’t my first, either 😉 )

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
