Mini-Egg Cookies, Make It Monday

If you are like me, you love the chocolate and candy that comes with Easter, and maaaaaybe buy a little too much and end up with leftovers. (Or if you’re entirely done yours already, there should be cheap chocolate available tomorrow- mini creme eggs, hopefully you are waiting for me!) Although just sitting and eating Mini-Eggs is a delightful prospect unto itself, I do enjoy working different candies into my favourite recipes to make more of a great thing- henceforth, I took my favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe, and added crushed and full Mini-Eggs!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Make It Monday

When it is really cold out, or quite frankly, you are just hungry, oatmeal cookies are the perfect answer- you get a little bit of sugar for energy, you get a little bit of oatmeal for fibre, and the chocolate is just for fun! I took a monster cookie recipe with M&Ms and tweaked it a bit with chocolate chips, because I didn’t have M&Ms on hand and I had chocolate chips to use up- I also made a few small changes that I will note. These were a huge success with the family, and will absolutely be a re-do! Now to the cookies!

Double Chocolate Fleur de Sel Cookies, Make It Monday

After treating myself to my new Bobbette and Belle  cookbook, I knew that I was going to have to make at least one recipe this week to christen it, and I was  little overwhelmed by all of the choices, to be honest. I almost went with a loaf or muffins for classic fall comfort food, but we were having dinner with some friends and I never arrive without dessert- cookies it is! I’m still trying to work on expanding my repertoire in the kitchen and I have never worked with salted sweets before, so I knew what choice I had to make- Double Chocolate Fleur de Sel cookies.

Snapshot Saturday, 26 May 2017

Snapshot Saturday, a peak into what’s happening in my life! I like to share the little things because that is what makes us who we are and what makes the world go around. It’s been a super busy week at work and I’m pretty exhausted, but there was one little highlight that made it all wonderful….

Make It Monday- Sugar Cookies, Take 2

As you will know from my Snapshot Saturday post last week, I recently purchased the most wonderful cookie cutters from The Gingerbread Cutter Company on Etsy! I still love them, they make a very clean cut and they are easy on your hands- metal cutters will often get harder to use when you are making double and triple batches, but the plastic eliminates that issue. Linda was kind enough to also provide recipes with the cookie cutters, so I decided to give the sugar cookie recipe a try!

Tools of the Trade, Make It Monday

After my cookie cutters arrived on Friday and I knew that I would be testing out the cutters (and one of the recipes that came with them), it started a train of thought through all of my various cookie cutters. I find baking quite peaceful and calming, and I think that this is the perfect time of year to give out some spring and Easter baking! I do have more cookie cutters than just these- this isn’t including any of the Christmas cookie cutters, I have more of those than most people should…- but these are some of my favourites, and for different reasons.

Snapshot Saturday, 25 March 2017

So, the last few months have been really hard on me. I’ve been incredibly stressed out from a few different areas and it has taken it’s toll on me, mentally and physically. That’s pretty hard for me to admit and I can’t say that coping will be easy. However, I’ve been trying to practice some self care and do things that make me happy. And what has made me happy this week?  Continue reading

Trial: Brownie Cookies

As per my summer of recipes, I have been tackling one new recipe every week. While sometimes I am not 100% in the mood to bake/cook, I always end happy that I tried it out. Some recipes are more of a leap, but for this week, I tried Brownie Cookies! I love brownies- if I could only ever have one dessert for the rest of my life, it would be a brownie. And cookies make everything easy to transport and in a bite-sized portion (so that I don’t eat everything). I looked through probably ten different recipes before settling on this one; it had several positive reviews that swung me.  Continue reading

Cookie Exchanges: How Do They Work?

You may have heard about cookie exchanges from your mom/aunt/grandma and dismissed it when you were younger. However, once you reach your mid-twenties, you probably need to start bringing things to holiday parties (don’t be that person). If you have a lot of events with the same people, you don’t want to always bring the same thing. And even if the events are with different people, you might not want to keep making the same cookie over and over and over and over again. Enter: the cookie exchange. Continue reading
