While there are many people who like to have coordinating sets of ornaments for their Christmas trees, there are also many of us who have an eclectic mix collected over a lifetime. I like to think that someone will find my ornaments in the future and will be able to recreate a history of my life. As such, you can find many events and peoples represented on my tree, including several of my hobbies. (Like my cross-stitch ornaments that I made!) One of my current favourites is from one of my favourite games. This week’s Ornament of the Day: my Tom Nook ornament!

Tom Nook Ornament
You may be wondering why I have a Hawaiian shirt wearing, somewhat bored racoon on my Christmas tree. And that is a fair question… This here is Tom Nook, of Animal Crossing fame. Tom Nook is essentially the banker of the series, he sells you a house and several expansions for a lot of bells (the game currency). Many of us Animal Crossing fans have a love-hate relationship with him, because you spend much of your time in the beginning of the game hustling to pay off his loans. But he is a key figure in the game!

I know it may seem odd to regular readers, as I don’t tend to mention video games a lot. And I know that many gamers write off Animal Crossing as not a “real” game. However, it is the first game I played properly as an adult and I still regularly play it now. (I usually stick with Animal Crossing: New Horizons but I also just grabbed Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete!)
I also received this ornament as a gift from my good friends. And I love ornaments as gifts, because I think of them every time I look at my tree!
Do you have any hobby-related ornaments on your Christmas tree?
Cheers,
The Historian
