History in the Making

Lululemon? Is that still a thing?

Like any other Canadian female twenty something, I have quite a bit of familiarity with Lululemon. I danced for almost two decades, and it was nice to have activewear for my to-and from class that wasn’t purely functional (read: actually cut for women) and good quality. I bought my first pieces from Lulu in 2005- I still have those Groove Pants, and they are in great condition. The original Scuba I had lasted about 5 years with a great deal of wear.

The tights and pants in the stores now are not the same quality they once were, we all know that. The Luon is thinner (I dodged that see-through bullet, thankfully), and there is far more pilling. They have continually changed the fit and cut of tops and bottoms, to the point that my two pairs of Groove Pants bought only 4 years apart do not look like they are anywhere close to the same pant. They are also raising the price fairly frequently- Scuba hoodies were once $86, and are now currently at $108 (if it is not a special edition). More money, less quality- we all know this to be the Lululemon trajectory at this point.

Should I (we) keep buying it?

Well, I have received a few pieces in the last few years that are still fantastic pieces of clothing. M gave me the navy Bliss Break wrap, and I love it. It is warm, it is comfortable, it looks great on. And their running shorts are perfect for what I need. I like the Wunder Unders for travelling, they are warm on the plane, but not stifling when I’m out doing things. They are also perfect for layering. I also haven’t found another company that has exceeded the quality of Lulu and offered the same flattering fit. I do not buy as much as I used to, though.

Pieces I Still Buy
-Swiftly Tech Tee- Good for running at the gym, light weight, wicks sweat.
-Speed Short, 4 Way Stretch- Great for the gym and outdoors, very light weight, wicks all moisture, dries quickly.
-Wunder Under Crops- Good for working out and for traveling, dries somewhat quickly.
-Bliss Break Wrap- Warm, comfortable, flattering.
-Headbands- Good for the gym, when you are out and about.
Until tomorrow,
The historian!
