This past Sunday, Junior Circle took on the Winnipeg MS Walk! My grandmother was diagnosed with MS at 29, so it is an important topic to me. It’s also nice out now, and it is a good way for Junior Circle to contribute to our communities! I got a bit of a sunburn, but all for a good cause 🙂 (I applied sunscreen three times….)Â
A bunch of mascots were there, Goldie and Goldette from the Goldeyes showed us some sweet dance moves before the walk started. (Turns out, Goldie gets attitudey if you only want a picture with Goldette.)
The walk began and finished at the Forks- there was over 1500 people walking, so there was a lot of energy about!
We walked through St. Boniface, a beautiful old neighbour in Winnipeg. We completed the full 5k. I normally cover that plus some on my lunch time runs, so I didn’t find it overwhelming to walk that at a regular pace. I really enjoyed being able to stop and look at the different houses- this is one of my favourites!
I am really proud of Junior Circle! We are getting out in our communities, and supporting the people and causes that are important to us while promoting Alpha Gam. The chapter didn’t do a whole ton of philanthropy while I was a collegian, so I’m happy that we get to do a lot more now. I was able to raise $150, and it didn’t take a ton of time. I think that in modern society it is very easy to become self-involved; we all need to remember to look outside of ourselves! I will have a post up in the next few weeks about our potential philanthropy event for the fall- I am very excited!!!

My mother was diagnosed with MS several years ago, so it’s something that’s important to me, too. I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother’s diagnosis. Looks like you had beautiful weather!
I found it hard to understand when I was younger, and even so now. I think that events like the MS Walk are just as important for the awareness that they raise in addition to the money!! Also, yes, the weather was wonderful- for the first time in years!! 🙂
