Today is going to be a slightly different Style File Friday- I promise that next week I will be back to my regularly scheduled style tips and advice posts next week (I’ve got two already on the go), but I wanted to go slightly more sentimental this week. Every single one of us have those pieces that although we might not be able to wear too often, we still hold very dear to ourselves- for me, one particular piece comes to mind…
For anyone who isn’t familiar with sororities and Greek life, there are different officer positions in a chapter (that sorority’s group on a particular campus). It might have to do with academics, finances, programming, or any number of areas, and each of those offices ideally will have an advisor. An advisor is an alumnae member who helps their student officer with any issues they might have, offer suggestions and guidance, sign off on reports, and any number of random things. Sororities are presented from the student/collegian point of view 99% of the time- I would like to share the other perspective today!
April is one of my favourite times of year, as it means that it is time for Alpha Gamma Delta sisters everywhere to celebrate International Reunion Day together. It is an event that happens every spring that allows us to celebrate our eleven wonderful founders, our sisters, and what the organisation means to each of us. Our International Headquarters picked a fantastic theme, “Empowering Women to Lead the Way”! It is a strong and important message that links every one of us together while encouraging us to keep our individual strengths. Continue reading
Other than my Badge Day 2017 post, I haven’t written a sorority related post in quite sometime. I have stepped back from our alumnae group but I still am an advisor and we have had a few different events that have given me the time to think back on my time as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta thus far. I believe that sorority experiences can vary widely due to geography, campus culture, chapter culture, age group, and a number of other factors, but I do believe that there a few common strings between all of us.
We have come to the end of my #ShowYourPurpose contest for Fraternity Friday! It was a great experience, and I was happy to “meet” some new Alpha Gams along the way- Alpha Gamma Delta is made up of some very inspiring women, and I’m lucky that I can call them sisters. Continue reading
I’m loving this contest- it is fantastic to be able to see what our sisters are doing for themselves, and for the world around them. Alpha Gamma Delta pushes us to be better women in every way possible. The little changes and actions in our lives are just as meaningful as grand gestures, and I think that this is a great time to celebrate our Fraternity and ourselves! One of my big hopes for this contest is to connect sisters, so please check out the #ShowYourPurpose tag on Instagram to see what sisters have been up to…
Week four of the #ShowYourPurpose contest is here to look at the next line of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose! Last week’s line was related to our wider social networks, while this week’s line focuses on those closest to us. We all have those key few people who are there for us no matter what, and those individuals deserve our time, energy, and love! Every worthwhile endeavour requires effort to be successful; friendships are no exception to that. Now, onto the line! Continue reading
We are back with week three of my #ShowYourPurpose series focusing on the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose. Every line hones in on a different aspect of being a well-rounded woman and this week we are focusing on our social connections and abilities. It’s 2016; while we need connections for our professional life and career, we also need them in our friendships and personal life. Most of us need support in one way or another, and maintaining those connections allow us to support others who in turn support us. Without further adieu, line three of the Purpose…
When I started this blog, my first ten Fraternity Friday’s or so were short posts discussing each line of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose and what they mean to me. I might be nerdy for it, but I do enjoy thinking on and talking about the Purpose. If our Founders could put that much thought into providing our Purpose, than it seems fair that I could put half the amount of thought into how I can live up to it. The next nine weeks of Fraternity Friday will not only look at that line of the Purpose but will detail what exactly I did that week to embody the line! Without further adieu, the first line of the Purpose… Continue reading
Sorority recruitment is fun and exciting and necessary but also exhausting. We have an incredibly small Greek system, and it usually falls on the three Panhellenic advisors to help out and play a decent sized role in recruitment. While it is nice to not have to wear specific outfits, help with bumping, and serve various refreshments, it’s also taxing to be in the Panhell room throughout the whole of recruitment when you have worked a full day and have other expectations in your life that still need to be met. I’ve taken this past week to take a little time for me, and to step back from Alpha Gam for just a few days! Junior Circle has quite a few events planned between now and Christmas, so it’s nice to be firmly back in alumnae life. Now, for three more of my favourite Fraternity Friday posts:
