Not to be a millennial, but it is almost May! And if you have been around An Historian About Town for a while, you will know that each month I focus on a different topic. (If you are new, welcome here!) In the past I’ve featured the Georgians, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and royal tours, among others. This year, I felt like there was an obvious choice- Jane Austen! While I always love Jane Austen, it is also the 250th anniversary of her birth. In honour of this major milestone, May 2025 will be Jane Austen Month on the site!

Jane Austen Month- May 2025
I am very excited for Jane Austen month! Northanger Abbey is one of my favourite novels and I re-read it every year. And quite frankly, I am always impressed at how much discussion and thought her limited works continue to produce centuries later.
Many of the posts on the site this month will be focused on Austen and related topics. (There will still be some regular posts that are not Austen-themed, though.) I’ve got literary history, biography, book recommendations, personal reflections, travel, and more planned for you. And if there is anything that you want to see on Jane Austen Month, please send me an email at AnHistorianAboutTown@gmail.com!

How to Prepare for Jane Austen Month
While you technically do not need to do anything to prepare for May, I do have a few suggestions if you want to get in the spirit. (I do think that at least half the people reading this will probably already be in the spirit but still!)
Grab one of Claudia Gray’s Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney mysteries (I would start with The Murder of Mr. Wickham) or your favourite Pride and Prejudice adaptation. Or perhaps a long walk inspired by Jane’s wanderings! In any case, Austen is on the near horizon…

“See you” soon for Jane Austen Month!
Cheers,
The Historian
