History in the Making

I have started giving up. Good for me!

I started reading The Captive Queen of Scots (Jean Plaidy), one of my Books-I-Own-That-I-Need-To-Read. And I just stopped reading The Captive Queen of Scots.

I have had a bad habit of forcing myself to soldier on through books that I am just to say I finished the book. I am 9 books ahead on my goodreads goal, so I definitely have room on that, and I am finally becoming okay with giving up on books. I found it dry and tedious and repetitive and redundant (you see what I did there??). I don’t want to read about 7 different escape attempts in the first 35% of the book when I know how it’s going to end. I don’t want to dread reading, so I am abandoning it! I am freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I still feel a little guilty, but I think that will pass with time. I give up on movies partway through if I don’t want to finish it, why do I feel this way with books?? Does anyone else feel this way? Is there a particular genre that does this to you? Comment and let me know!

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
