Europe Plans!

M and I are planning to go back to Europe again in the fall! Of course we will be going to Ireland, but we are considering also going to Iceland for 3-4 days. We have both wanted to visit Iceland for a while, and I think that it would be good timing for us. My grandparents loved visiting Iceland, and there are a few things that I am itching to finally see in person!

1. Seljalandsfoss, Iceland

This waterfall looks absolutely stunning, and I am hoping to spend a good amount of time in the outdoors in Iceland. The country is so different from anything else I’ve ever seen, and it looks to be a terrific adventure!

2.The Blue Lagoon

Obviously the Blue Lagoon is on the list. Apparently there are actually shuttles between the Lagoon and the airport, so this should be easy to get to and a relaxing stop.

3.Reykjavik

I certainly want to spend time in Reykjavik- it has a unique look, and I’ve heard that the people are wonderful. Also, that Cafe Loki in the bottom left looks pretty perfect…. One of my top sites to see in Reykjavik is the Huldufolk Garden! I have grown up hearing about the Huldufolk (elves) in Gimli, so it’s time to see them in their natural habitat. I’m not leaving until I spot one *cue determined face*!

4.Hallgrímskirkja

This is in Reykjavik, but it needed a mention! I always love seeing churches and cathedrals, as the architecture is often striking and carries a weight that other buildings do not. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a Lutheran church, so I am particularly interested to see the difference. I’ve already seen the Berliner Dom, Notre-Dame, St. Paul’s, Westminster Abbey, York Minster, St. Mary’s Cathedral (Kilkenny), St. Patrick’s, and Christchurch- that list isn’t nearly long enough!! Hallgrímskirkja will be a fine addition to the list.

M also has a list- a longer list- of things that he would like to see in Iceland. They are mostly historical, as his own area of study is Viking history. I don’t know much about it but I’m happy to go along and learn! The one other long shot is to visit the President’s house. You can actually just walk up to his house and knock on the door and say hello, and I’ve heard that he is usually quite friendly and welcoming!
