The #AnHistorianReads Book Club is doing a holiday read this year! In the past we’ve read Northanger Abbey and Persuasion by Jane Austen, Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell, and Anne of Green Gables and Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery, among others. So I thought that reading something festive was the perfect way to wrap up our reading year together. Anyone is welcome to join the book club and take part in our reading of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens!
A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens
A Christmas Carol was first published in London by Chapman & Hall in 1843. It has become a Christmas classic and has been continuously in print since its first release, as well as being made into numerous plays and movies. It tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man. It explores themes about the treatment of the poor and the ability of people to reform themselves.

A Christmas Carol is a fairly short novella, we will be reading it over two weeks. You can go back and comment on posts at any point, but this is the discussion schedule:
