I know, I know- this weekend only marks Canadian Thanksgiving, but I have a holiday post today! Advent calendars have been popular for over two hundred years now, and they are only becoming more so. If there is an Advent calendar you want, I would recommend buying it now and putting it away- many are selling out in weeks! You can find anything in an Advent calendar if you look long enough. I personally like to get consumable Advent calendars- getting 24 little figurines or bookmarks or whatever seems good in theory, but then you permanently have a bunch of stuff to store. And not unexpectedly, I usually go for tea.

You can get the Adagio Tea Advent Callendar in either loose leaf or teabag versions, depending on your tea preferences. There are 24 different teas in the calendar; they don’t list the teas on the calendar itself so that you still have a surprise. However, you can check on the website for a full tea and ingredient listing if you are looking for any allergens.
I received the loose leaf version, and there is enough for a large mug daily. (Adagio explains it is enough for an 8oz pot, if you are a teapot fan!) Because you are trying to drink through the calendar from 1-24 December, I think that this is the perfect amount of tea! (With the calendars that have 2-3 cups worth a day, I ended up with tiny bits of tea leftover. I like to have several different teas throughout the day, so one mug’s worth is optimal.)
This calendar is $34 USD with shipping to Canada available starting at $3.75, bringing it to just over $51 CAD. Given that several tea Advent calendars that I’ve purchased have been well-over $100 CAD (plus shipping), I think that the Adagio tea Advent calendar is fantastic value for what you receive.
A Festive Design
This calendar looks winter-y and festive without being in-your-face Christmas. The green with silver and gold accents is classic, and you could absolutely leave it out as part of your decor. I’ve noticed that many Advent calendars do not actually look holiday themed in any way, which kind of defeats the point for me- this is an adult Christmas design that still feels appropriately festive! (Unsurprisingly, my favourite element is the reindeer…)
I am also a big fan of the cardboard design. This Advent calendar is recyclable, both the interior and the exterior, which is important to me. (I have one Advent calendar I keep and refill with chocolate each year, but most are not sturdy enough to be worth keeping anyways.)

I am not a big of fear-mongering when it comes to making purchases, so this is only a friendly recommendation! If you really want this Advent calendar, I would recommend ordering it now and then putting it away for December. Many popular Advent calendars sell out, so it is possible to miss out entirely. And shipping times can start getting longer in October (especially if you are here in Canada). (It is always nice to have things ahead of time instead of waiting until the last minute, especially when everything is getting busy with the holiday season.)

The History of Advent Calendars
If you are curious, Advent calendars date back to the mid-nineteenth century. The first homemade Advent calendars appeared in German homes around 1850, with images or candy. The first commercial Advent calendars were sold in Germany in 1903 with classic winter and holiday images inside.
