I am thankful that the other members of Junior Circle are as passionate about philanthropy as I am. Our chapter doesn’t do a lot of philanthropy events, and hasn’t in the seven years since I pledged. (Eep, I’m getting on in years.) We find different ways to give back and make a difference in our communities- to several different causes.
This relates to one specific line of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose: “To contribute to the world’s work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied”. Take Pride, Winnipeg! is a program where anyone can take a few hours and pick up trash in their neighbourhood. The organisation will give you plastic and cotton gloves and more garbage bags than anyone could ever fill. You can pick wherever you want, it could not be more flexible!
We love doing low key events like this! We get to have fun and chat and relax while still giving back. We went to the dog park where I always go with Loki and Thorn. The off-leash area is in great condition, but the paths closer to the river aren’t as well kept. It was an absolutely gorgeous night, and it was wonderful to have a couple hours outside with friends.
There might only be five of us still, but we are making small differences everywhere we can. This might not raise any money, but it has already made a difference to some of the people who visit the park.
How do you give back to your community?
