TV shows are cancelled all of the time. I feel like most people heard that the Mindy Project was recently cancelled- thankfully, the age of Netflix and Hulu have offered another option for mainstream television shows. (Also see: Community. But that’s a little different because the writing went slightly whackadoo.) Shows from back in the day had no such luck, though. And by back in the day, I mean the late 2000s.
Pushing Daisies is one of my favourite shows, and I’ve recently embarked on a rewatch. It’s not an overly long rewatch. There are sadly just over twenty episodes to watch. A piemaker is able to bring people back from the dead for exactly a minute (or else….)- throw in a sort-of dead, sort-of girlfriend, a PI best friend, and Kristin Chenowith, and you have a fantastic television show! It was quirky and unique and dark but still bubbly. It’s the perfect form of escapism.
I personally love the mystery of it- it’s a cozy in an episode. And like a cozy, you don’t typically see the violence straight on. It was MADE FOR ME. There are ridiculous characters and implausible murders and pies galore and a sweet dog and I’ve yet to find another show that even comes close to it’s style.
I don’t understand how this didn’t last for more than two seasons, I really don’t. However, maybe in the future we will be lucky enough to get a Pushing Daisies reunion movie, á la Gilmore Girls. Somehow Family Guy is STILL on, but noooo Pushing Daisies.

I would love to see another season of Firefly! And Pushing Daisies, even though I haven’t watched it yet!
And yet some mediocre shows get 5+ seasons *scratches my head*
I agree that Pushing Daisies didn’t last nearly long enough. That’s probably exactly because it wasn’t formulaic like everything else. Great shame!
It *is* a shame, that’s exactly what made it wonderful!
