Blogger Fitness Challenge, Summer 2017

The main aspect of blogging that I am still here for is the community. So, when I sat down and thought about the fact that my blogging might be cutting down on my exercise/ fitness time, I figured that there may be other bloggers who feel the same way. I could have simply written this down in a notebook but I figured that I would share this if anyone else is interested!

From Class to Stage, Part III: Performance

I’ve been so excited to write this post, the final in my series on ballet! Today is all about the performance, the end goal, what arguably everyone associates ballet with. I think that a lot of people have been to the ballet at least once (or a play/ musical/ opera/ symphony), and have some understanding on what is going on from the audience side. However, everything behind the stage? It usually stays backstage. It is much like the duck on water; floating along calmly on top, with feet moving incredibly quickly and chaotically beneath the water. Without further adieu, a day of performance!

From Class to Stage, Part II: Dress Rehearsal

Welcome back to the second part of my series on my experiences with ballet! Last week was all my ballet class experience, what I do to get ready, what I need for class, and what goes on in a class. This week is all about dress rehearsal, something not usually seen by “outsiders”. It is sometimes a little hectic and chaotic, there is a lot of warming up and continual movement, and there are usually quite a few mistakes. However, a bad dress rehearsal means that it will be a good show!

Quick Question Tuesday

Back again with another quick question! I’m trying my hardest to get back into my exercise groove and while some days I have less motivation than others, I’m still getting to the gym and to my yoga mat and putting in the hours. Running, Zumba, yoga, and ballet are keeping me moving right now. However, I’m always looking for more ideas, which leads me to my quick question of the day… Continue reading

I Need Help Being Healthy…

Today’s post isn’t a list or recommendations or instructions, but rather it’s just what is going on with me fitness-wise. I’ve really struggled in the last 5-6 months to find the motivation to exercise; work is incredibly draining and life is hectic and I’m having a really hard time motivating myself to get off my butt and do something. I find that a lot of people are into that motivated state of mind right now, and I’m hoping that writing about it is going to force some accountability… Continue reading

Staying Healthy, Back to the Basics

I don’t know if anyone else is feeling the same, but I am getting run down. I’m not sleeping as much as I should, I’m not eating as healthy as I should, and I’m not taking time to make sure that I’m running at full capacity (or even half capacity, if I’m being entirely honest). Work has been particularly stressful, life is getting incredibly busy, and the littlest things seem to slow me down and preoccupy my mind. It’s time to go back to the basics and focus on what I need to be the best me! I believe that finishing the year strongly is just as important, if not more so, than starting the new year fresh. There are small things that we can do to take care of ourselves, and today I’m gonna to share some of my recommendations! Continue reading

Living the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose, Pt. II- Fraternity Friday

Hello, hello again! Welcome back to my #ShowYourPurpose series, this week we will be looking at the second line of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose. All Greek organisations will have a creed of sorts; some are longer, page long deals, while others are a few short lines. Every Founder, no matter which organisation they belong to, created the aspects of their organisation with specific reasons in mind, and I respect that! However, I do appreciate that the Purpose is of a good length, and that it really “covers” every aspect of life. What is this week’s line?

Motivate Yourself to Move!

I find that this is the time of the year that we all start to burrow; depending on how far north you are, it is actually getting cold. Frost and snow are making an appearance, the winds are a’whistling, and the heat might not be on everywhere. (Dear offices, please turn on your heat with Canadian Thanksgiving. That can be your tiny favour to us popsicles who are dying a slow, frozen death.) In addition to making a cinnamon bun-bed and burning through Netflix- we all need to rewatch Gilmore Girls before the premiere!!- we turn to comfort foods that keep us warm and cozy inside. All of this means that we start to exercise less and less while we prepare to hibernate- unfortunately, that isn’t the best for our bodies and health. So, what can you do to motivate yourself to move? Continue reading

Back at it and better than ever!

As I posted last week, I didn’t do much of anything on the weekend- I just embraced the sick feeling and tried to rest. However, I also put all of my energy into exercising this week and getting back into my¬†regular routine. I would say that 6-8 months ago, I was at my peak- either running or doing yoga every day. It wasn’t enough variation for me to continue it in the long term, but I miss exercising every day in some way. Overall, I was in better shape, better health, and a better head space. I am trying to be realistic and give myself a day off here and there, but stick to somewhat of a routine. This week was a SUCCESS!

Every Little Bit of Movement Helps!

This week I made a concentrated effort to get back to the gym! I made it a priority- I put it in my planner and set an alarm on my phone, and made sure that I got there. I wasn’t really feeling running at all, so I focused on the different gym classes. Because my gym is at a university, the regular gym part is stuffed full of students everywhere, whereas the classes aren’t quite so crowded. Plus, I would look slightly ridiculous dancing around in the regular gym by myself… While it didn’t end so well, this week was fairly productive fitness-wise!
