While I think we all understand the dangers and negatives that come with social media, there are also some positives. And in the last few months, there has been a real resurgence in interest in Canadian literature, history, culture, and more. On Threads in particular, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s books have become a hot topic and I will take any chance to chat about them. So, I have resurrected my online book club and will be hosting a LMM book club this summer for anyone who is interested! Keep reading for more info on my Summer 2025 Lucy Maud Montgomery Book Club!

Where to Find the Lucy Maud Montgomery Book Club?
I polled my wonderful followers on Threads, and my Substack was chosen as the “location” for the book club. The book club posts will be free to everyone (and anyone will be able to comment)! The post will go live on Saturday for that week’s chapters (titled “Lucy Maud Montgomery Book Club), although the previous posts will stay open for comments if you are reading on a different schedule. You can find my Substack below where you can subscribe for the book club* and the schedule for each book below the synopsis!

* If you would like to support the site and the work that I do, I have a twice-monthly substack newsletter that goes out with exclusive history posts, period drama reviews, book previews, link recommendations, and more for $5 CAD/month or $50CAD/year!

Book Club Schedule:
The books chosen by my followers were: Anne of Green Gables (the first in the Anne series), Emily of New Moon (the first in the Emily trilogy), and The Blue Castle! I love all three of these novels for different reasons, and I am very excited to chat about these with everyone.

June 2025- Emily of New Moon (#1)
Emily Starr never knew what it was to be lonely–until her beloved father died. Now Emily’s an orphan, and her snobbish relatives are taking her to live with them at New Moon Farm. Although she’s sure she’ll never be happy there, Emily deals with her stern aunt Elizabeth and her malicious classmates by using her quick wit and holding her head high.
Things slowly begin to change for the better when Emily makes some new friends. There’s Teddy Kent, who does marvelous drawings; Perry Miller, the hired boy, who’s sailed the world with his father yet has never been to school; and above all, Ilse Burnley, a tomboy with a blazing temper. With these wonderful companions at her side and adventures around every corner, Emily begins to find her new home beautiful and fascinating–so much so that she comes to think of herself as Emily of New Moon.

Saturday, 7 June- Chapters 7-13
Saturday, 14 June- Chapters 14-20
Saturday, 21 June- Chapters 21-28

July 2025- The Blue Castle
An unforgettable story of courage and romance. Will Valancy Stirling ever escape her strict family and find true love?
Valancy Stirling is 29, unmarried, and has never been in love. Living with her overbearing mother and meddlesome aunt, she finds her only consolation in the “forbidden” books of John Foster and her daydreams of the Blue Castle–a place where all her dreams come true and she can be who she truly wants to be. After getting shocking news from the doctor, she rebels against her family and discovers a surprising new world, full of love and adventures far beyond her most secret dreams.
