Office Secret Santa- The End Result (Blogmas #14)

In my earlier Secret Santa post, I covered how my office takes Secret Santa fairly seriously. We have a detailed list of information to fill out to help our Santa out. Welllllll, I got Kermit* (name changed to protect identity but preserve his love of Muppets), who decided to put beer/wine/moonshine, and cookies/sandwiches/burgers. However, not cats, because Kermit has asthma and it would give him an asthma attack. Hmmmmmm, what to do, what to do, what to do.

I asked around for some suggestions (sneakily, of course), and formulated a plan. Obviously every gift was going to include cats, that’s just a given. I thought cats with asthma themselves might endear themselves more to Kermit. Week One? A Smithwick’s, seven different  cookies, and a coinpurse that happened to be a cat looking for his inhaler.

Week two was a challenge- how do I improve? How do I up the sneaky factor? ENTER GOOGLE IMAGES. Feline asthma is a real thing, and there is a lot of information if you are willing to look. Each day I secretly taped up more pictures to complete the Christmas tree of asthmatic cats, and with an info sheet from the Cornell vet program on Friday. Fun fact, turns out cat asthma triggers are mostly the same as human! On the Wednesday, I bought a burger (with all of the toppings in a separate container), and left it at person A’s desk. Person B came and collected it and delivered it to Kermit’s desk. Success!!!

The final week, the piece de resistance, I knew I had to clinch it. I crafted roughly 75 origami cats to stuff in his gift bag. The main gift was a gift card to speciality burger shop, but the origami cats were necessary. On Wednesday morning (the day of the potluck and final exchange), I started hiding some of the cats on his desk. Every time he would get up and leave a few more cats- you have to keep the suspense going! When I did finally give him his gift, he loved it!! I like to think of this as a Secret Santa victory 🙂 It’s a touch blurry, but here are some of the cats!

Have you come up with anything creative for Secret Santa?? Any fun stories??

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
